We’re planning on launching the next generation of e621 next week - on March 4.
On the 4th we’ll take the old site down and do the necessary migrations and upgrades.
Closer to the 4th we’ll have estimates on the downtime we’ll need to finish the upgrades.

We’re migrating the site’s content over to a new server with significantly faster storage to help with response times when the site is busy. We already did the initial migration last week, this is just to catch up on things that have changed during that time.

Since a lot of you are asking: No, it’s not possible to use the old layout on the new e621. The server backend is significantly different from the old site.
That being said, we’re not going to sit still. We’re taking constructive feedback on how we can improve it on the forums.

Regarding the multiple outages over the last 12 hours:
Our datacenter lost power overnight and our servers did not reboot cleanly.
We’re just going to do the planned upgrades now and bring the site back up when we’re done, at this point.

The upgrade that is taking a bulk of the time scheduled is a major software version leap for the database.
…which involves dumping the existing database, moving it to the new server and importing it. For a site of e621’s size, that’s quite a bit of data to throw around.

The beta of the new e621 is a fork of Danbooru (what the original e621 was based on), and that mobile view was designed by them.
