@kiityc @LeftieMidwife And isn't a 40% transfer risk for so called "low risk" births? It doesn't seem like a sensible option for anyone tbh.

I'm not arguing that anyone should be forced to have medical intervention or birth in hospital or that those going against guidelines be denied any care. But I do think there's a conversation to be had re how much public funds should be used to facilitate eg. a high risk homebirth, given the resources used for that impact others (2 midwives at a homebirth is less midwives in the hospital).

@ms_peaceweaver What birthrights are arguing is for provision and services for unsafe practises that will be desired by very few women as a "Safe Maternity Care Act". That's the exact opposite of safety.

@suzypuss And they should be offered all clinically reasonable options ... something incompatible with promoting "normal birth" or breastfeeding as preferable.

@suzypuss This is what women's rights activism looks like, maternity edition. Isn't it depressing!

@JakubZN Well they say twins but still a risk no sensible clinician would recommend and very few informed women would take.

@catherineroyuk Also what midwife led units are being closed? Freestanding, isolated units that have poor safety records and are generally not favoured by women?

👀Who needs science or clinical experience when you have the director of a charity and the head of the so called Baby Friendly Initiative informing NICE guidelines? 🤯Baby Friendly takes money from NHS services to boss them around about not letting patients use formula. And what have they come up with? 🚩NICE guidelines that claim milk supply issues are "in women's heads" 🚩No accurate info on the absolute risks/benefits of different feeding options. 🚩Support services that are only for women feeding "the best way," not for those with actual problems. 🚩Workplaces advised have breastfeeding leads, but no advice on safely stopping breastfeeding This is how conflicts of interest, financial and ideological (imho more the latter), infiltrate guidelines and fail the very people they purport to help. Remarkably they seem to give very little emphasis to making sure infants get the nutrition they need to thrive and dismissing mothers' concerns about insufficient milk intake and pushing them to re-establish exclusive breastfeeding if they have started using any formula would seem to risk underfeeding ... 🤯

Yesterday, @FeedingAlliance reviewed what NICE says about feeding babies in new guidelines. They also shared the dismissive responses that @NICEComms gave to feedback. But why *did* NICE abandon principles of evidence-based medicine and informed/person-centred care here..? 🧵1/

On day 2 😳 More seriously - hope you're feeling better and you know enough to know only an idiot would entertain the idea of a depression diagnosis in someone who has just been through surgery, clearly isn't getting the nursing care most patients would get after surgery and hasn't slept in 48 hours. You're writing coherent tweets and know your own mind - impressive!
