At this point, trying to equate alcohol and cannabis is like insisting that parachutes and anvils are both āfalling-related devices.ā Itās almost impressive how mainstream media keeps running the same tired, misleading narrativesāif only it werenāt so absurd. @WSJ, do better. š¤¦āāļø

1/ If you ever need a bonkers comparisonālike whether you should wear your glasses or chew on themā@rddysum at the WSJ is your hero. Her latest piece tries to claim that cannabis and alcohol are equally harmful, which is about as reasonable as comparing a life jacket to an anchor. How about we all chew on this brutally uneven comparison: Alcohol kills 140,000 people per year in the U.S. (CDC). Cannabis? Direct, fatal overdoses: zero (WHO). A BAC 5x the legal limit is often fatal (NIAAA). A THC dose 5x the legal limit? You might fall asleep and wake up hungry. Alcohol is linked to 40% of violent crimes (BJS). Cannabis? No uptick in violence where legalized (RAND). Alcohol causes 1 in 3 liver transplants (ALF). Cannabis? No cases of cannabis-induced liver failure.

š§µ A breakdown of the biggest flaws & biases in the findingsā¦ š 1/ Correlation ā Causation They found "lower brain activation" in cannabis usersābut did cannabis cause this, or were people with different brain function already more likely to use it? The study doesnāt prove cause and effect. š©

@hubermanlab TL;DR: This study is flawed, biased, and doesnāt prove what the headlines claim. If you want to actually understand cannabis & cognition, look at longitudinal studies, not clickbait science. š§ My Blog on it (+ study PDF): š
