Wow, Twitter is a horrible place to be if you are an islander. The abuse & trolling is awful. We voice our issues & genuine concerns, yet we are all liars? The ferries affect our lives every day. Yet someone who did an island hop during the summer a few years ago knows better?🤦🏻♀️

Some faith has been restored (a little bit anyway) in the local (Uist) housing market. A house being sold to a local family - who want to make it their long term home, instead of (another) holiday let. Doesn’t happen often but when it does, it’s just lovely 😊

Big shout out to the crew on the Hebrides & staff at Lochmaddy, who managed to get everyone on a very late sailing to Uig tonight. Cancellations all weekend, but the amazing staff carried on to get us to the mainland. Crew & port staff deserve all the credit here.

What a shambles. How are we meant to remain and repopulate our wonderful islands when our lifeline services are are so so poor. Worrying how little we matter to those who can make a change. It is only a matter of time until people start to leave..for good.

My 8 year old came home with Star of the Week based on his knowledge of our local news, in particular the ferries. As you can imagine, I couldn’t be prouder 🤩

Almost 9 years of my two favourites. Rescued at 5 weeks old in Doha, my beautiful, Arabic cats. Survived the relocation to Uist from the sunshine of the desert. Still sleep under the duvet most days mind you..😺

I’ve taken this week off to concentrate (and work a crazy amount of hours per day) on our house renovation. Back in July we (a young local family) had our offer on a very old house accepted. A house with zero insulation, awful damp issues amongst other things.. 1/2

Housing market in Uist continues to go from bad to worse. Families/first time buyers again being outbid by cash buyers and those who buy to add more air bnbs to their already large property portfolio on the island. How will we ever move forward..

Our young people are leaving. They can't return. Businesses can't get staff. Schools can't get teachers. Nursing homes can't get carers. If this continues all we will have left are wet deserts, museums and pop up summer communities.
