St Thomas was doing fine until Father Dease retired. I worked there for over 15 years and was a student as well. In 2000, my first doctoral class we read Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” as well as having to actually “present a movement performance that symbolizes oppression.” From there it was a short hop to Marx, bell hooks, critical pedagogy, and hell.
