@DovSFriedman I think that analysis is too narrow. "Killing aid" is not the goal at all. It's just collateral damage. It's the workforce, as I point out.

@DovSFriedman What I don't understand Dov is what you think I'm saying. All the piece does is try to explain what Vought seems to think and what's happening. Don't confuse my love of fires with endorsement of views.

@DovSFriedman People should put their grief and panic aside. Well-meaning or not is irrelevant. I don't see what your animus is here, apart from some kind of plea for general empathy at a time of guillotines.

@DovSFriedman Say more for sure about #2, I plead guilty. On #1, however, I'd just say that my very muted glee at the spectacle is a healthy counterbalance to the empty wails of anguish that fill the streets.

@DamonLinker On the separation of powers thing, I still think Ross’s observation is very useful. Impoundment is one issue yes. But forcing a crisis to the Supreme Court that undos Congress’ rights to mandate contours of the Executive is a different one. As a Straussian, you can appreciate it.
They're going to be collapsed together but there's a big difference btw Trump seeking more direct control over the exec branch itself via political appointments and Trump trying to seize more power over appropriated spending -- and the efforts are likely to meet different fates.

@DamonLinker Dubya tried and failed the reorg. AID bureaucracy proved too strong. As some Atlantic wag put it, the cruelty is the point. But not cruelty to the poor of the world but to the idealistic staffers. The goal is to kick their teeth out.
