This is my mum in her prime, often the only woman standing as one of the first wave of female commissioners in the north. I applaud every single woman who has risen so we may stand tall & solid.

When we talk, they say it’s because we are already out and we should should shut up 😔. Almost 2 and half decades since leaving Nigeria and I still miss home viscerally. Nigeria has never ever left me.

Hmm! Even she wasn’t someone’s anything. It’s wrong. Women don’t have to belong in any of those groups or to anyone to be accorded basic respect abeg.
@nahlabee
I was saying this to my husband the other day. As a mother of young men, the assumption that men are fair game for all manners of atrocities shocks me. I cant even imagine the many who have been killed unjustly and others living in fear.
@reniabina
So true. You go through life with a hole the size of the person you have lost. At your lowest and highest, you remember them. True what they say about the size of your love being the size of your grief.

Atoh. Me I just keep quiet before the children of anger come for me. This is a serious issue to consider, this homesickness. I have survived living in the UK for this long only by going home to Nigeria to replenish. May Nigeria be great. May it be a safe place for everyone.
North Star, anchor, wind beneath my wings. You inspire me to do all that I do. Your tireless advocacy and passion for education rubbed off. I actually woke up to a list of recommendations from my 75 year old mum 😂. That’s true dedication right there. Allah ya bar mana ke 💚
I am honoured to have been invited by Hamad Bin Khalifah university in Qatar to participate in their programme focused on Designing a Post Covid Humanity
Twitter people I love you all but this is a defining moment so if they suspend, they suspend. Already told Facebook people same. These apps are not the air we breathe. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free Inshaallah. I wonder why Palestinian freedom bothers them so.

That’s the saddest part. It tells me we need to be talking more across genders. Brothers, fathers and sons should not be exempt from these painful discussions. For long women have only shared battle wounds with each other. As a mother of only sons I am determined to

It has to be the unconditionality. That feeling that whatever I did, my dad would be there for me. He validated my sister

Fun fact: Y’all know I love my clothes and colour, right? I picked a graduation outfit to go with the gown long before I had even finished writing the thesis. Dressing up for the grad was also a motivation.

I’m more shocked by those who argue that aboki only means friend and we should not be insulted by the term. See wahala. A northerner tells you they find the name, especially the context of usage derogatory you keep arguing that they shouldn’t be insulted. See me see rainin wayo.
This amazing man was a school proprietor with a difference. He certainly did his bit for mass education in Minna. He made sure that his school was affordable to many. May Allah grant him jannah

For me, Prof Pius was the kind of scholar I aspired to be. His level of selflessness was beyond anything I had ever seen. His enduring love for Africa, inspiring. Today Africa has suggested a body blow. We had so few ‘Piuses’ 😢

Something about those images immediately doused my empathy and deactivated my crap detection fast; and then it continued. I remembered how they were housed in the community while Afghan refugees were left to wallow in rooms in a hotel. The list is endless.
I am an academic and I call for a free Palestine and an end to the Israeli state's apartheid. This is integral to both my moral world view and my scholarship. Pass it on.

Communication. But truly just a deep ethic of care, love and consideration. It does help that we are similar in many ways and we truly value each other. We have other friendships besides this but we carefully treasure this as well. It’s comfort - the one we run back to.
At times like this, the only way to vaccinate ourselves from hate Is with random (often seemingly) little acts of kindness to each other. Love trumps hate each time. This was left at a local mosque in small town Lincolnshire. Allah’s rahma and noor everyone hurting right now. 💚
