@joanocha I have seen academics advocate for Palestine on X. Not so long ago people lost their academic related jobs for speaking politics on X. People have also used this platform to report academic misconduct, sexual harassment and alternative paths to academia

@joanocha So my general thought is not necessarily saying we should stay. But at least stop and consider. what can we do with this platform. I acknowledge X is far from perfect. I personally don’t want to support EM, and I also notice more annoying ads and worse user experience

@joanocha I have also seen academics use X for science communication. To communicate in many more languages than they would regularly do in a completely formal setting. I have seen academics use X to discuss diversity issues, colonial science, etc. I think X can be used in many ways

@mufernando_ People are leaving for different reasons: EM, the user experience, mental health, wanting a more secluded space, etc. I’m not saying there aren’t valid reasons. I am just questioning whether it is the right move. Being in the ivory tower won��t help the next election either.

@rmp033 You can email them and they usually reply emails fast. I had two very different experiences with two assemblies that I uploaded. There was one stuck in a step for sometime and when I emailed them about it they made it go through the next right away.
