Finding female CRW beetles getting close to laying eggs. The next 5-7 days will be great timing to get the insecticide on to prevent egg laying and protect the 2022 corn crop!!

2.5 acre soil sampling grid has ONE data point every 330'.. yield map has a data point every 15'. A well calibrated yield monitor gives you a great tool for building variable rate fertilizer prescriptions if you are looking to replace crop removal!!

Lots of calls on "black spots" on corn.. Photo shows Physoderma Brown spot.. which is not a yield robbing disease. Do not be alarmed seeing this on your corn plants!!! This IS NOT Tar Spot like some are saying..

Frosted corn from Monday morning showing most is going survive. Looks ugly from road however most plants have numerous green leaves below the damage. Split plant to c if growing point (where knife is) and inside of whorl still green. Yield hit unknown.

Rotary Hoe decision??? Do the "poke test" with your index finger. If there is moderate resistance or you can't poke your finger down the seed slot, a corn or soybean plant can't get thru either. If you think you "MAY" have to hoe THEN GO DO IT!.. Don't wait another day to two.

Enough sulfur for your alfalfa? A good test would be to place 0.5 lb of AMS in a 5'x5' area before the rain tomorrow. Then see how second crop responds. If like the pics below then make adjustments to your sulfur program.

What could have been??? Couldn't help but think last evening leaving a pop trial most the cobs have 12-15 kernels that aborted due 2 drought. On a 16 around ear equates to another 70+ bu/ac @ 32K ear count & 80k kernels/bu. Don't make 2 drastic of changes based on this season!

Volunteer corn in SB 1) Causes sig yield loss 2) Provides food source 4 CRW larva 3) Provides pollen/food source 4 CRW beetles Vol. corn will pollinate later than surrounding corn, attracting CRW adults & many will lay eggs in SB, negating rotation Finding 100+ CRW larva on some

Chart showing nitrogen conversion @ different soil temps. Anhydrous & Manure need 2 b applied so can't wait forever... Just keep in mind days above 60, days above 50 & days above 40. As you can see conversion doesn't come to a crawl until under 40 degrees. Stabilizers can help!

Results from last weeks Pioneer Sales Rep pre Pro Farmer Crop Tour! As expected variability across every field, county, plant date, fertility program, etc. Fields range from last years highs 2 lows not seen since 2012. Heat this week could easily take #'s down another 5-10%.

Many customers asking will the rain forecasted this week help or is it too late?? Absolutely!!! Both crops are needing about 6" of water yet before maturity to maximize yield!

Age old question... what is the economic optimal corn harvest moisture?? Not many true studies out there that take in all the actual costs and losses in the field. I thought this one was interesting... The forecast looking like drying corn may not be an issue in another couple
