Real answer: white screens emit more light than black screens because black is just the absence of white in screens (lower brightness). Books are just colored physically and thus don't emit more light for white parts.
Dark mode is about lower brightness while being legible.

That really depends on where you're going. But if we're talking about shorter distances, yeah, there are things more efficient than trains, but they aren't cars. Trolleys, buses, biking, and even walking are significantly more efficient, and often faster. Cars suck ass.
