Met this D-Day Veteran on our ferry over to Normandy. He was a minesweeper for the invasion at 18 years old. His whole family from Tennessee was with and said they all wouldn’t be here if he didn’t make it.
Last picture in the classroom with Mr Brigham. I am going to miss teaching with, and next to, one of the greatest educators I have ever met. Here’s to a retirement filled with happiness, travel, and adventure!
Last night was science experiment time in our house...although I found myself constantly saying to my daughter, “you know, I’m a history teacher, right?”
I would like to thank cardboard cut out Dr. Tyrrell for stopping by after work today to let me know it’s going to be a great year! I will be sure to pass this great pick me up on...Now, if I could only figure out who is responsible...
I don’t know how our guide pulled it off but we got to ride on this water vehicle and get a glimpse of coming in to Dog Green on Omaha beach. What an experience...
Met these awesome Eagles at the Tinley Park convention center yesterday while getting our first vaccine shot. Thanks to the National Guard for making it run so smoothly. I’m seeing light at the end of the tunnel!
Sandburg students are amazing! I feel so incredibly lucky to work at a school where 184 students just attended a 2 hour evening AP World History review session with Mr Brigham, Ms Parker, and I. That is just awesome!!
Goofing around with the family today in the driveway and my daughter said “I’m Kendall Coyne”. We had to reenact the moment!

Most of summer has been spent with travel baseball. I’m proud of the incredible run my son’s team has been on-Runner up in the 48 team Sparks invitational, Top 17 finish in Georgia out of 148 of the best 15U teams in nation, and Champions this past weekend at PBR in Kansas City.
I absolutely love our students! 245 students showed up on a Sunday morning to take our mock AP World exam today! Sandburg students are amazing! I couldn’t be prouder!
Welcome to Greece! After a long day of travel (and playing mafia in the airport) we are here. The first group picture of the trip. So looking forward to seeing the Parthenon again.
While taking parents around for a showcase of Sandburg today it was great to see classes I don’t usually get to see. One thing was very obvious...what an amazing school we have and how great our teachers and students are...
Loved seeing Mr Brigham at the boys JV soccer game this morning (4-1 winners over Waubonsie Valley). This retiring Sandburg legend ALWAYS makes time to support the Eagles and his students!
Spent the weekend in Missouri coaching these outstanding young men. They took home the 16 U Midwest National championship going 7-0. So proud of them!

It was great seeing these outstanding individuals at the Jane’s Warriors 5k today. They are amazing role models! So proud that Jane’s legacy continues to live on.
It’s great being back and being a learner again. Really liked our speaker today Trent Day Hall and his message that “relationships are the currency of humanity.”
In what might be one of the coolest birthdays in the world, Gavin ate breakfast in Prague, lunch in Vienna, and dinner in Budapest. Happy Birthday! It will be one you will always remember!
Our first time, second time, third and fourth time travelers!!!! Christina has been with us to 11 different countries in 4 years!! You are all awesome! Thanks for making memories with us!

After visiting 30 countries and so many more cities with students in the summer, Vienna, Austria is the only one Mr Brigham and I have visited twice with kids.
I want to thank former alum Dr. Brian Hertz (class of ‘94) for joining our advisory today to talk with our kids. He not only talked about the medical field but about the importance of choosing a career that you love, volunteering, and having a mentor.
Check out former Sandburg Eagle Kyle LaHucik’s edition of the Orland Blueprint. Great writing and information. Amazing interview with Coach John O’Malley. Makes you want to start running immediately. Blueprint No. 2 — 4.14.20
I am always so amazed and proud of our Sandburg students! 270 freshman showed up and took our mock AP World practice exam this morning for 3 plus hours. Absolutely incredible!!
Went to the Imperial War Museum and saw these WWI gas masks...and yes I officially found the records indicating Mr Brigham was the last casualty of WWI 😉
Mr Brigham and I started our Lewis and Clark pose 12 years ago on the Amazon river in Peru and have taken one ever since. This years version is on the North Sea.
