After nine hours of questioning, writing of statements, arguing, shouting and appealing,
@NurudeenAkewus1
and I were released by the

Cybercrime Centre. What happened today is shameful and brazen abuse of power by a man who deems himself above the law.
Former IGP Solomon Arase is behind the invitation and detention of both of us for exposing corruption that he presided over. Today, he leads the

I was attacked this morning in Gwagwalada while covering the election. There was disturbance and a guy was teying to upturn the canopy on top of INEC officials. I was recording the scene when a guy told me to stop recording. I did. In seconds, I was surrounded by hordes
Its incredible that nearly two months after this investigation by

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting [

Our headquarters is now located in Lugbe, FCT Abuja, and we're ready to continue promoting good governance by doing high-quality journalism that holds people in power
It is obvious that the Nigerian police does not have the men to cover the elections. They will tey their best but they don't have the manpower, no matter what the police chiefs say.
The media has really gone to the dogs. Many times,
@TheICIR
does investigative reports that expose powerful people. Sadly, these people held to account use the media to discredit our report. This is exactly what
@GuardianNigeria
has done here.
beaten her too. Place was Agwan Fulani Town Hall. Kudos to CSP Hamza Sadiq, DPO Gwagwalada, a committed, passionate officer, who has recovered my phone for me. I also have my car key. But my voter's card, driver's licenses, debit cards etc and purse are still missing.
Yes, the SSS can come to the ICIR office and invite anybody they want. At least, they will identify themselves and we can delegate a team to go with the invited party. But we live in a civilised society where there are processes, rules and laws. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic.
of people. Miscreant, thugs etc. I was beaten, my clothes turn and my phone, car key, purse and a pouch containing my debit cards, Nigeria and US driver's licenses and other items. They took everything on me. But I fought to keep my camera.
Some day, we should hold a public debate on why some journalists apply for every training or fellowship opportunity that come their way, but nothing productive ever comes after. I always wonder. Is it just about the free lunch and per diem?
Mental health caution for journalists:
* Don't apply for every media training opportunity or award. Let some pass and apply for only the one you have the necessary requirements.
* Don't wait till the last minute to apply. The stress involved may not be good for your health.
A guy brought out a knife and tried to stab me. I kicked him with my steel toed Skechers and ... Fortunately, apart from a few scratches, I escaped unhurt. There was a policewoman at the PU and I was just praying that she wouldn't try to intervene cos they would have

My

Diary.
A Yr ago, I covered the
#EndSARSProtest
in
#Abuja
. A journalist, I soon became a peacemaker & pacifier, working with
@AbdulMahmud01
to prevent a bloodbath. An officer had ordered that protesters be shot at to disperse them.
He went on to say he had seen the report published by the
@TheICIR
on the matter and threatened to come to the newspaper's office to arrest the reeporter. "If you like, you can set up your camera and all those things," he said.
When he called back, he had
@niyi_oyedeji
's name but still said he worked for Integrity Group. "No, I don't.". No matter. He said the Director of the FCT Command of SSS wanted him at 10am next day. Just like that!!! In these days of kidnapping and missing persons?
However, on Friday morning,
#AdedayoPaul
called
@niyi_oyedeji
and asked if he was in the office and if he can pick him up. He was reminded of the request for an invitation. But the stranger insisted that the SSS had a right to invite him without a formal invitation.
The
@PoliceNG
obviously has a sinister agenda and sticks to remaining ignorant of the law. It continues to harass and intimidate journalists using the Cybercrime law, which can no longer be a basis for charging citizens for cyberstalking.
Under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, some state officials and lawmakers diverted funds meant for revamping public schools.

The

does an incredible job to pursue its constitutional mandate of holding government to account. But, is the

This nonsense must stop. The media complements govt anti corruption war. But when we expose corruption of state officials, they use instrments of the state to harass journalists. How does an investigative report equate cyberstalking?

The newspaper did not bother to find out if there is any such case in court. Otherwise, it would have quoted from it. Yet, there is a story on the said suit. And an editor passed that story. It stinks to hell.
The second is this report by

on how a Perm Sec extended the service of directors in a ministry by 3 months, when government directed that they go immediately. Why? Cos she wanted an affected director to handle upcoming procurement contracts?
Shame on
@radionigeria

mandates the media to hold power to account. Corrupt public officials should not be able to undermine that mandate using state media.
