It's been one whole year since we lost Kene, yet it feels like just yesterday that his presence lit up our lives. Kene was more than a colleague; he was a friend, a brother, and a source of inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of hard work, unwavering team spirit, infectious laughter, and relentless pursuit of excellence remains etched in our hearts and continues to guide us every day. Kene was the kind of person who brought people together, who made even the most challenging moments bearable with his positivity and sense of humor. His dedication to his work and his genuine care for those around him set a standard that we strive to live up to. Though he is no longer with us in person, his impact is deeply felt in everything we do. As we remember Kene today, we celebrate the incredible life he lived and the beautiful memories he left behind. We honor his spirit by carrying forward his values and ensuring that his light continues to shine through us. May his soul keep resting peacefully in God’s bosom, and may we find comfort in knowing that his legacy will never be forgotten. Rest on, dear Kene—you are forever in our hearts.

Breaking Barriers and Strengthening Pathways: Day 1 of the SGBV Referral Pathways Workshop! The day began with anticipation as Edosa Oviawe of Global Rights introduced the mission: building community-driven referral pathways to combat SGBV in Nigeria’s Northwest. Highlighting the region’s rising insecurity, he outlined the project’s goal to empower women in peacebuilding and strengthen community resilience through dialogue and early warning systems. Progress reports from GBV teams brought the mission to life. From Zonkwa’s hotline supporting survivors, including an 8-year-old rape victim, to Gagi’s justice-seeking efforts and Natsinta’s house-to-house awareness campaigns, stories of resilience emerged. In Kwari, a domestic violence case involving a woman with a broken leg spurred action, showcasing the teams’ commitment to justice and healing. Grace Abbin from Kafanchan SARC emphasized the need for survivor-centered approaches, breaking the silence surrounding SGBV. Her session reminded everyone that empathy and confidentiality are key to supporting survivors. Day 1 highlighted the power of collaboration, trust, and community-driven solutions in the fight against SGBV. Together, we are building stronger, safer pathways for justice. Stay tuned for Day 2 updates! #inclusionmatters #Inclusivity #FCDOGR25 #GlobalRights25 #WomenEmpowerment #women

When the history of human rights in Nigeria is finally told, some women will occupy more prominent positions than men. Abiodun Baiyewu @bbiodun, the Executive Director, Global Rights is one such woman, who has trudged on in the battle to ensure a better Nigeria for all Nigerians. A Lawyer by profession, Ms Baiyewu has initiated programmes which have put Government and its institutions on their toes through her NGO, Global Rights. She has led from the front, formidable moves to address election violence in Nigeria and bring perpetrators to justice. She has even engaged the International Criminal Court, to take a critical look at election violence and human rights violations in Nigeria. Despite obvious daunting challenges, Ms Baiyewu has remained in the trenches. Last weekend, Abi spoke with Onikepo Braithwaite @TheAdvocateTD and Jude Igbanoi @Judesblawg781 both from @THISDAYLIVE on several issues, such as why election violence still thrives all over the country, some reasons for gender inequality in governance and the menace of illegal mining activities in Nigeria.

I was recently on BBC and part of what I spoke on concerned the soldiers who have paid the ultimate price especially in the Northeast and the Northwest. Everyone talks about these soldiers but no one talks about their wives. Some of these women are persons with disabilities. No one is talking about what will happen to them. This is the first initiative I have seen that has specifically isolated women with disabilities, especially in Northwest Nigeria. As far as I am concerned, this is huge. Very huge! I thank Global Rights for this. - Father Attah Barkindo @GongolaFox, Director of @KukahCentre with his goodwill message #InclusionMatters #WomenWithDisabilities #Inclusivity #FCDOGR25 #GlobalRights25 #WomenEmpowerment #women

This townhall is the first step towards creating a solution and giving us a roadmap for driving inclusive engagement with Women with Disabilities. At the end of it, Global Rights can now effectively work on a disability inclusion program. Also, other CSOs present will begin to amplify the need for deliberate inclusion of Women with Disabilities in the programs as well. - @Gaxkin (Program Manager, Global Rights) in his opening remarks at the townhall. #InclusionMatters #WomenWithDisabilities #Inclusivity #FCDOGR25 #GlobalRights25 #WomenEmpowerment #women

Imagine this. You know an Aisha. She’s a resilient advocate for peace in her community, but as a woman with a disability, her journey hasn’t been easy. Too often, barriers like stigma and lack of access shut women like her out of decision-making spaces. But imagine the power of a peacebuilding table where every voice truly matters. We’re working to break these barriers, and create opportunities for women with disabilities to lead, share their stories, and shape lasting peace. Because when every woman can contribute, communities thrive. Join us as we promote inclusion and build a world where no one is left behind. 🌍 #InclusionMatters #WomenWithDisabilities #GrFCDO
