It also focused on strengthening important aspects of the research, intending to produce a report that is all-encompassing and widely accepted by all stakeholders concerned, ahead of publication, public presentation and launch. The activity had in attendance critical stakeholders such as representatives from the Federal Ministry of Interior, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), National Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), International development partners, Civil Society Organisations, members of the Independent State Peace Architecture (ISPA) among others. #TKC4Peace #OSF4Peace #TheKukahCentre #PeaceCommittee #NPC

Consequently, the project team which has been engaging the different political parties held a consultative meeting with members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress, APC, to share some of these strategies to strengthen ideology, promote inclusion, and enshrine accountability in the different political parties. The National Chairman of APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje commended The Kukah Centre for working to instil a culture of accountability in all political parties and indicated that The Progressives Institute (TPI) is open to working with the Centre to build capacity of political leaders and to strengthen party ideology for the greater good of Nigeria. Recently, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) held a book launch to mark “100 Years of Political Parties Evolution in Nigeria” bringing awareness to the evolution and existence of parties in Nigeria. One lesson, in hindsight is that parties need to have a more national outlook rather than ethnic or regional colourations. A strong takeaway from the meeting was that we need political parties, and politicians, that can be accountable to their party members and Nigerians at large to maintain trust and continue to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
