Say it ain't so. What a terrible loss to our craft. Pete Carmichael was the real thing as teacher and historian. Rest in peace Pete!

Today, the Gettysburg and American Civil War history communities lost one of their finest historians, Dr. Peter Carmichael. I recently read his book, and it’s one of the finest histories I’ve ever read. Rest in Peace, Professor. Aloha 🩷🙏🏼 @jbf1755 @davidwblight1 @McFaul

Harris is already running her campaign against the Sup. CT. Add Shapiro or Chris Murphy to the ticket and hit them even harder. Americans are frightened by this Court; remind them every day why.

Dems, we have waited too long. JB, firmly release your delegates to Harris with your own powerful endorsement. Take over the news cycle with vetting of 5-6 VP candidates. Make the whole world see America's future in the Dem party. An exciting convention for a new ticket.

So much hand-wringing by we Dems, afraid that there is no "plan" after JB steps down. I put out this hopeful plan 10 days ago. Sarah Kendzior has done same and many others as well. All we have to fear is fear itself folks.

This announcement fits in the over-used category of "unbelievable." Hardly know how to grasp this but to get to work on my biography of James Weldon Johnson, which is what I am doing. Fight and pray for Ukraine and its children.

Just published my proposal for Biden to step down, VP Harris assumes the presidency, her team prepares a "House Divided" speech for her acceptance at the Dem convention.

To critics: of course the Court didn't literally "amend" the Constitution. But they just radically altered the extent of presidential power. "Official acts?" There is no presidential immunity for criminality. Andrew Johnson knew that; so did Richard Nixon and thus he resigned.

Because of the Dred Scott decision, The Taney Court lives in infamy. Because of today's immunity decision, the Roberts Court will live in infamy.

The founders made it very difficult to amend the Constitution. Today six people on the Supreme Court amended the Constitution, greatly increasing presidential power in perpetuity. Breathtakingly arrogant abuse of power.

Those of us who believe in liberal democracy - liberals! - are going to have to organize and fight harder than the right wing has for years to bring about today's Court decision. Dems are now running against this Supreme Court.

Today is a dark day in national history. Roberts opinion sickens as it blandly overthrows the constitutional order. Sotomayor's dissent is epic in its clarity of outrage. But read Thomas's consent: all that matters to him is to deny that a special prosecutor should even exist.

On debate consider: with this Sup CT now openly protecting Trump from prosecution for Jan. 6 and turning back history, only the Biden campaign can prosecute DT in public opinion for the crime of Jan. 6. Biden's failure to do that Thurs. is unacceptable.

This is an opportunity for Dems to act. Going to take courage and careful leadership/coalition building. How about a Kamala Harris/Mitch Landrieu ticket? Or Harris/Andy Beshear or Harris/Chris Murphy? A progressive Southerner on ticket is really important.

All honor to the D-Day vets. How many Americans under 30 really can grasp the profound importance - beyond sentiment - of the Allied liberation of Europe in 1944-45. Have we taught them? My father was a four-year vet of WWII. My uncle survived Battle of the Bulge. Save Ukraine.

The Republican party owns Trump now as he owns them. They cannot hide from him except in their own media havens.

"This election is existential. I mean, if we don't make the right decision in this election in our country, we may never have another actual election. I will put that out there because I believe it. And if we no longer have another actual election, we will be governed by a small minority of right-wing forces that are well organized and well funded and are getting exactly what they want in terms of turning the clock back on women." — HRC

DT is so little now. "No man is liberated from fear who dares not see his place in the world as it is; no man can achieve the greatness of which he is capable until he has allowed himself to see his own littleness." -Bertrand Russell, "Dreams and Facts."

Good point. Did not mean to suggest that Thomas and Alito are redeemable. They are not. I am in favor of increasing the Court to 13. That will take Dem majorities in both houses.

With respect, you might as well suggest that the Reconstruction-era Klan could have been swayed by public pressure. These two are true believers in an anti-Constitutional vision and in their own righteousness. The question here — bearing in mind there are a limited number of themes that voters can digest — is whether this can be translated in easily understandable terms to more Trump = more judges like this.
