I've been lucky enough to meet successful people in the networking field. A common trait in many of them is humility. Be proud of your achievements, but don't let your feet leave the ground. STAY HUMBLE, don't be an selfish idiot. We ALL make the community!

Now that it is official in our system and intranet, I can publish it:
I have been promoted to Principal Engineer role in Verizon.
This is the biggest milestone in my career so far. Right on time before turning 29 years old next December.
Its been some months since I touched this. The journey has come to an end, at least for this particular goal. And my final count was: 8 attempts
#CCDE
v2: 4 attempts
#CCDEv3
: 4 attempts
Passing only at the very last one. I have lost count of the number of things I have learned.
I'm not blessed with endless success, rather, a myriad of lessons from my failures. Without them I would not be here.
Sometimes I just wish every failure wouldn't sting that much.
My psychologist will have some overtime the following weeks.
As I said before: I wouldn't have made it without my friends. This achievement is as mine as it is theirs.
This man contributed enormously to make this goal happen. Look at that smile!💖

Just passed the
#DCCOR
exam. I am mentally DRAINED. That exam was TOUGH. Storage and UCS were crammed for the last ~10 days. SO MUCH to configure in UCS.
CORE exams are tough! (first one I take myself).
Happy, proud, honored, and many other words to describe how it feels to be among the
#Ciscochampion
community geeks for another year!
The Champs are a welcoming community of tech folks with genuine interest to share, collaborate and help others. I'm just ecstatic!
YAY!
Got the
#CCDE
results - I'll have to take the exam again. Although bitter and painful, it means I still can improve. So, back on strict study schedule, and looking forward to the next attempt.
Insist, persist, resist, NEVER desist!
This is not over!
#CCDE
I would like to ask everybody in the networking community to join me congratulating
@Peter_Paluch
- he has been appointed as the new
#CCIE
R&S Program manager. Many of us have found answers on his words, he has taught many of us the bits and bytes, the deepest details 1/
So I've received my
#CCDE
results, it's another fail. Now regrouping and assessing my skills. I remember having problems with my exam strategy. I was disorganised. Back to drawing board! I have to keep pushing! One day I'll make it! I've learned another way it doesn't work. 1/n
@Ian_Willoughby
When I moved to Czech Republic I didn't know anything about Czech (I still don't). And I learned to say "Nerozumím český". Sadly, I wasn't able to pronounce it properly. It came out as "Nerozumím cecky"😅
In this picture are the only 3
#CCDE
individuals in the Czech Republic. All of them working for the same company.
One of them was my first boss (
@PeterHaluska
- right) and the other is our director (Dmytro Muzycko - left).
Trivia: none of them is Czech.

@elopes01
So, the
#CCDE
exam is coming. On 13th (Tuesday), I'll face the beast again after 3 years of hiatus.
Pandemic pushed everything away, and then ironing out my life added more delay.
I couldn't prepare myself as I'd have liked to, but here I am, facing it.
My worst case scenario
- Engineers must learn more linux and APIs
Me: Do we provide a platform for them to learn? (I.e. A lab)
- No
- Me: Can engineers run a VM in their laptops and learn?
- No admin rights
- Me: how do you expect them to learn and feel motivated?
- I don't know it's their job
Me: ...
Yesterday I got a beautiful package from
@LearningatCisco
.
I can't feel prouder and humbler to be among their
#CiscoVIP
crew. Sometimes I still pinch myself to ensure I'm not living a dream since years ago. They keep reminding me that these things are possible.
Thank you🥺❤️
Each time I look at this picture I remind myself about the results of hard work. I've never considered myself brilliant or gifted. But I've learned to push forward as hard as possible and not give up despite limitations and roadblocks.
This is
@MichyfishMurphy
's and my motto.
I work everyday with
#SDWAN
. Yesterday I created a data policy and forgot the "default action drop" added by default at the end of the policy (akin to ACLs' implicit deny). It resulted in a site isolated for ~20 minutes.
Don't be so hard on yourself, we all make mistakes.
The
#CCDE
exam is over, I have no idea if I passed or not (looks like this is a normal feeling for everybody taking it), but I did my best. Put all the effort I could, my answers felt right. If I don't pass, gotta get back to the whiteboard and regroup. Now rest, soldier!
I can't describe how proud and humbled I am. Getting selected as a
#CiscoVIP
for another year is an honor, and as always, I'd proudly wear these colours to help others and contribute with the community in the best way I can.
Thank you,
@LearningatCisco
❤️
It's time to kick off 2022 with our annual VIP program announcement.... 🥁
Join us in congratulating 🎉 and welcoming 🤝 our new and returning members to the

Be proud of your scars and mistakes. 4 times in v2 and 2 so far in v3.
I knew no jack about wireless two months ago, now I know a little more. I feel proud today.
#CCDE
It's out. Better score, still a fail. I'll try to take it again in June.
A bit better than December!
All in all: I feel better and more relaxed. It'll be, eventually.
I spent 2.5 hours preparing the migration of a site in UK.
Actual migration time: less than 7 mins (counting verification checks and similar "is it working?" commands😁).
#proud
So I was told that we can actually share this publicly (I thought the NDA was absolutely draconian). So, here it goes:
I'm proudly collaborating with Cisco as a member of the Exam Advisory Group!😁
For the last 2 years🤣 yes, I'm late🤦♂️
I've just had a meeting with our Learning & Development peers. I've been told that till now, about 300 people have been learning
#SDWAN
internally using my content and the lab I've helped to design and build.
This made my day☺

My worst case scenario
Yesterday I (finally) finished the probation period at Verizon. Because of several maters happening simultaneously in my life, this was the roughest probation period I've ever had. I had to put a lot of effort there, and now victorious, I can celebrate and have family time😊
Got this in my email just now!😱
"Congratulations David Penaloza Seijas!
You have received a Verizon Spotlight Award for demonstrating our Core Values and going far above and beyond"
It's the 4th one I have received since I work for Verizon😎👊
YAS!
Tomorrow I'll take two planes to Vegas and wear this for about 20 hours😂 all we do for
#CiscoLive
I also have a detective hat to support
@DeniseFishburne
the network detective😎🥰
Today I went for the regular blood donation exercise (it's been chaotic lately because of covid, so it's been about 10 months since my last appointment), and I got surprised with a cure medal and a letter of thanks, it was my 10th donation here in Czech Republic. Beautiful!❤️
OMG, I cannot believe this. Nick was a respectable content creator and an expert in the community. He was brilliant, young, extremely accomplished and knowledgeable.
I'm still in shock.
My condolences to his family and loved ones. This is a huge and dreadful loss.
I have some terrible news but
@nickrusso42518
has passed away
I considered him a friend and we always joked about a Cisco Live selfie with him mean mugging and my big smile.
Brilliant brilliant man lost too soon
Nicholas Russo Obituary - Bel Air, MD ()
I have been designated to provide training to our global engineering organization this Thursday. The call invitation came in and it says at the end:
"Presentation will be held by David Penaloza Seijas, Lead Network Consulting Engineer, Cisco Designated VIP"
YIKES! *scared*

I've been in a call for 45 minutes - a person being one of the leads for a project has no idea how to listen.
People, only technical skills are not the goal. Invest time in soft skills! Communication, empathy, problem solving, negotiation, active listening.
They are IMPORTANT!
After passing the
#CCDE
exam I'm having trouble finding what to do. My life has been gravitating around the exam for so long that life without feels so weird.
For now, I'll push myself to dedicate more time to studying Czech, now I have no excuses.
But... WHAT NOW?
I keep wondering if I should start my own company and offer consultancy and training. I'm sure I'd slap the shit out of many companies with big names doing a terrible job and shielding themselves behind the prestige they once had.
Aiming for the
#CCDE
November attempt this year. I'll have to take the written exam again before that. It is surprising that it's been 3 years ago since I've passed the written exam😶 (August 2017). And yet, here I am, taking it again.
The more I apply for jobs/positions the more convinced I am that I should open a company and do consulting on my own.
I'm already getting annoyed by the "you are overqualified", "you are above the range" and "move to X country" punchlines and everything they entail.
I want to thank all of you who provided support, motivation, a work of advice and company.
I've shared via LinkedIn that I'm looking for another job (I'm not jobless yet, but we were told it'll come in the next months) and the encouragement and endorsing have been eye-watering.
In this picture I've captured a massive amount of brain power and kindness.
@Wendellodom

I've got a FAIL, and I'll do my best to take it again on February
#CCDE
I took notes of all the things that threw me off, starting with Wireless😅
I do remember also
@Jacob_Zartmann
mentioning he sat and studied wireless design after one of his attempts.
Regardless of the result, a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders today.
I'll probably be back in Brussels by February.
Right,
@FreerkT
?😁

I got a random notification from FedEx: "Your package will be delivered today" and got confused, as I did not know who sent it nor I was expecting any package.
It just arrived and it was a beautiful surprise from

candidates: tomorrow is your day to face the beast. Read carefully, determine constraints and requirements, think cold, choose critically, be adamant defending your solution, don't let the exam discourage you, keep your mental peace and head up. I wish YOU the best!
First
#CiscoLive
as a
#CCDE
. I must admit I'm excited and freaking out at the same time.
Since passing the exam, many colleagues believe I've been enlightened overnight because I've tapped some mysterious essence of the universe.
Good luck to all
#CCDE
candidates today!
Remember: read the question, look for constraints, and most importantly: DON'T FIGHT THE TEST!
It isn't about best practices, it is about supporting the business and meeting requirements within constraints.
@LearningatCisco
I've got a pretty cool email😎👊
"Congratulations David Penaloza Seijas!
You have received a Verizon Spotlight Award" (...) "Recognizing you for your commitment to Verizon's core values.
You represent the best."
Now this was a surprise!😯
Made a change in the DCs last night. I was tired as fuck. Followed my implementation and spotted a typo in one router ID in BGP. Went to fix it... In the global VRF instead of the one I was working on. 2 minutes outage. I got an escalation already because of the call centers.
It was a FAIL for me again. At this point, I no longer know what's wrong, what's right, or if I'm a hopeless moron.
I'm starting to question what I know and if I even understand things.
I'll go to sleep now. I don't feel good at all.

Pros: nice view, excitements due to meeting SO MANY friends!
Cons: the driver is still wondering why I was wearing a musketeer hat. Little he knows it also comes with a cape🤣
I'm trying to organise my browser bookmarks and I have found so many things I promised myself I'd come back to.
This is one of them, although I ended up learning in some other ways:
I hope it helps anybody wishing to learn BGP.
#CCDE
update: the scenarios were incredible. I have to admit that I had fun. I was laughing hysterically in a couple of them. Their changes, turns, situations, initiatives, constraints and requirements were unexpected. I can't love this exam more. Hard, but. above all, fair.
Happy birthday, mom. Thanks to you I know what does it mean to work hard, to never stop, to always do the extra mile. Thanks to you I know that heroes don't wear capes, they are normal people, right next to us, making things possible. You are unique, you are my biggest hero❤
