Despite having seen many shows at the next door Theatre Royal, this was a first visit to the Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall - @RoyalNottingham. Thoughts on #VarnaInternationalBallet and a very dark, quite expressionistic at times, Romeo and Juliet.
"A tale haunted by death... terrific crypt scene when a crowd of twenty chilling figures accompany Romeo and Juliet’s final moments." @davidmeaddance on #VarnaInternationalBallet in Romeo and Juliet at @RoyalNottingham

What a super looking @BRB season, and a Spring 2026 triple bill that is certainly going to be worth waiting for.
@CAcostaOfficial and @BRB announce 25-26 season, which includes the return of Black Sabbath - The Ballet and Don Quixote, Kurt Jooss’ The Green Table, and a gala to celebrate Sir Peter Wright entering his 100th year

It is a superb ballet and it was a super evening that got better and better as it went along, even if I felt it didn't quite have the emotional heft of performances I've seen from Das Stuttgarter Ballett. Thoughts on The Royal Ballet in John Cranko's Onegin at the @rbo_org

No review on this one but revisiting @AcostaDanza and #CarlosAcosta's 'Nutcracker in Havana' at @MKTheatre was a great way to start the year. Super performances all round, especially from Thalía Cardím, who was a lovely, bubbly Clara.

I had a super few hours with @MotionhouseDT last month, watching a rehearsal of Act One of their new show 'Hidden', which opens next month at @warwickarts Centre, and talking to artistic director Kevin Finnan about the work, and the inspiration for it.
@davidmeaddance drops in on rehearsals and talks to @MotionhouseDT artistic director Kevin Finnan about his new 'Hidden', which opens at @warwickarts from February 6-9.

My final live performance of 2024, and a really sparkling way to go out. Thoughts on a lovely afternoon with #AnnaRoseOSullivan, #MarcelinoSambé and #TheRoyalBallet in Sir Frederick Ashton's #Cinderella at The @rbo_org
"#AnnaRoseOSullivan projected a gentle, modest, sweet Cinderella... [She] really came into her own at the Act II ball, however. To say she was radiant does not seem enough. Regal and beautiful..." @davidmeaddance reports from @rbo_org London.

It's certainly an original combination - and an original ending. A look at Duck Pond by #Circa from Australia, and an entertaining afternoon at the @southbankcentre
Swan Lake plus Ugly Duckling equals... Duck Pond. An entertaining take on the classic ballet by Australian contemporary circus company #circa. @davidmeaddance reports from the Royal Festival Hall at the @southbankcentre London.

It's certainly fresh, and colourful doesn't even start to describe Act Two. There's a lot to take in. So much that further viewings of @ENBallet new Nutcracker are definitely called for. Just a shame that choreography is maybe not all it could be.
Dick Bird’s sets are glorious, and to say that Act Two is a riot of colour just doesn’t feel enough." "It is, like most Nutcrackers of course, really about Clara, and first Wiggins and then Bueno steal the show." @davidmeaddance on @ENBallet new Nutcracker

The 'big' Nutcrackers are fabulous. The designs especially seem to be better and better. But you can create seasonal ballet magic on a smaller scale too. #BalletTheatreUK's #Nutcracker does just that and made for an excellent Sunday afternoon
"Magic indeed." "While the ‘big’ Nutcrackers grab all the headlines, there are smaller-scale productions around worth catching too." @davidmeaddance reports on #BalletTheatreUK's fine version of the seasonal favourite.

It was a remarkable work when it first appeared 29 years ago, and it still is. And two remarkable performances too by #HarrisonDowzell (Swan) and #JamesLovell (Prince). @SirMattBourne Swan Lake, @Sadlers_Wells then touring.
"His swans... proud, feisty creatures, much closer in many ways to the real waterfowl than almost anything else you will see on stage. They move with power and presence." @davidmeaddance is @Sadlers_Wells for @SirMattBourne @New_Adventures #Swan Lake.
