Built a new
@figma
plugin I call "Magic Messages". It generates entire conversations using ChatGPT and renders them using our design system at Discord. You can set a topic, # people talking, and # of messages. This way we can generate content for our designs more easily.
I’m super excited to announce I’ll be joining
@figma
as a product designer in May! I’ve been a huge fan of the product for years and have been constantly impressed by the work this team does. Can’t wait to learn from and build stuff with some of the best in the industry!
My new Figma plugin, Vector Fields is out! Create generative patterns with lines, dots, and custom SVGs. It's free and open source and very fun to play with

Excited to share Design Lint, a
@figmadesign
plugin I've been working on for a few months. The plugin finds and highlights missing styles (for type, borders, effects, fills, etc) and incorrect border radius values in the context of your designs.
I'm really excited about our new
@figma
feature, variables. So, I built a new plugin I call "Find Variables" to help you find where they're being used across your design. It will be free and open source once it's published to Figma community!
I'm almost done with a new
@figma
plugin that generates vector fields and patterns. It's super fun to play with. It supports custom svgs, different vector field patterns, and automatically adjusts to frames. Just need to knock out a few bugs before I make it free and open source
My new design portfolio is now open-source and published on
@figmadesign
community for everyone to use, reference, or learn from. I hope if you're new to design, this can help you get started with building your own portfolio.
Check it out!
Just published a new simple
@figma
plugin for generating dot patterns called Dieter Dots. It generates fun circular dot patterns akin to Dieter Ram's work. Shoutout to
@pjonori
for the initial math! Link below
I've been working on a new
@figma
plugin called Selection Text. It's a lightweight way to see how your text layers are styled in any given frame or set of frames. I designed it to be fast, lightweight, and feel native to Figma. I'll post an in-depth look once it's published!
Finally finished (well mostly finished) my new design portfolio. Made with React/Gatsby + Framer Motion. Planning on open-sourcing the code (on github) and the designs (on Figma) later this week. Check it out
Excited to share that my new
@figma
plugin, Selection Text is out! It's a lightweight way to lint your designs. When you click on frames, Selection Text shows you how all your text layers are styled (or unstyled). This started as my Figma hackathon project...
I can't believe my
@figmadesign
plugin Design Lint has been downloaded 10,000 times! So blown away by the design community and all the awesome things people are building with and for one another.
Tomorrow is my last day at Discord. Getting the chance to design one of my favorite products for the past 5 years has been both surreal and rewarding. I’m going to miss my design team and all the super talented people there that became some of my closest friends. 1/3
It's live! 🥳 Design Lint, my new
@figmadesign
plugin is available on Figma. Lint your designs for missing styles without logging in or signing up. It's also open source! More information at
I put together a simple resume template for folks looking for new design roles. It uses auto layout + styles for type and color to make editing it super easy. It's completely free to use on
@figma
community.
Just released a big update for my Figma plugin, Design Lint. The plugin can now automatically fix missing fill, text, stroke, and effect styles using styles found in your designs. For text, if there isn't a direct match it now makes a recommendation...
I almost forgot to share, we shipped a new
@Figma
Community homepage! It felt like a good moment to have a bit of fun with the hero so I prototyped this idea with react + framer motion.

Just released a big update for my
@figma
plugin, Design Lint! Missing a bunch of text styles in your design? No problem, filters help you focus on fixing specific errors in your design more easily. Next is performance, this file is 3000 layers and it loads in a few seconds!
My new
@figmadesign
plugin, Table of Contents is published! Direct people to your project's most important pages by generating a table of contents for your project. It's also open-source and available as a community file.
Just published an updated version of Design Lint, my
@figma
plugin for finding missing styles. An official 2.0 is coming soon (with more features), but this update brings improved performance, new UI, and some bug fixes. Also, it's completely free
As someone who took a year off in college to debate whether I should even pursue design as a career, I feel really honored to be a featured creator in
@figmadesign
newsletter this week.
Today I'm open-sourcing
@discordapp
's theming plugin for
@figmadesign
. This plugin lets you switch between themes for your designs, then shows you a list of any layers that may have been skipped. Check it out!
My new Figma plugin, Variable Finder is now available! It's free and open source. Use it to find which variables are being used on your page, then select those layers easily. Github link in the next tweet ->
Finally got a chance to try out the new
@figmadesign
feature, variants! It's promising so far. 1 component featuring 8 different states instead of 8+ components for each.
I'm so excited to share what
@kly_cl
and team have been cooking for
@figma
community.
Launching today, resource pages have been redesigned! Plugin creators can now upload multiple videos and images to showcase their work!
I wrote about how we build and use
@figmadesign
plugins at
@discord
to improve our workflow. All of the tools mentioned in the post are open source! Shoutout to Justin our illustrator for the amazing blog illustration.
Excited to share my first
@figmadesign
Figjam plugin "Create Sticky from Text." This plugin makes it easy to generate sticky notes from any text you've written prior to your meeting. You can turn each line of a paragraph into a sticky or bulk create from text layers.
Awwwards sites remind me of high fashion. Don’t get me wrong, a ton of talent goes into making them but like high fashion “you’re not supposed to wear this everyday” it’s like “oh you’re not supposed to use this website for more than a few seconds”.
The design team at
@discord
will be hiring its first full-time design-system product designer in 2021. If you know someone or are interested send me or
@entemper
a DM!
I love
@figmadesign
new link feature. Non-designers get lost in our design files so often that the ability to link directly to specific designs and external documents is a huge quality of life improvement. We're going to start adding table of contents pages to our projects!
What if AI could summarize our brainstorms for us? I've been exploring using Text Analysis AI with
@figmadesign
's Figjam to try and build a plugin to do just that. Still a work in progress, but I'm working on a blog post and will be releasing it as open-source!
Interested in building
@figmadesign
plugins? I just published a light intro into how Figma works behind the scenes and how to dip your toe into the water of building your own tools!
Excited to share a remote onboarding template for
@figmadesign
by
@jeffreykam
and I. It's available now on the Discord community page here: Our goal was to improve the experience of our new designers joining remotely. It includes...
@negroprogrammer
Are you maybe walking more? I feel like I see tweets like this but anytime I’m on vacation I walk like several miles a day and use every ounce of energy I have to explore vs an average work day at home where I get 6k steps
I'm on a role today. I built a little tool to generate those dot arrangements made famous by Dieter Rams. I don't know the official name, so I'm calling them Dieter Dots.
Have you ever wanted a more granular view of how your styles are used in your design? Coming soon to my Figma Plugin, Design Lint 2.0 is a styles overview. Each style and its layers are selectable, making switching styles or finding styles being used incorrectly a breeze.
As of last week I am now a senior staff designer at Discord. After being in management for a few years now im excited to be back closer to my craft. Being a manager was both super rewarding and challenging in so many ways. Expect to see me sharing more work in the coming weeks!
My
@figmadesign
plugin, Design Lint, just hit 20k installs! 🎉 To celebrate, I just released a new update! Now you can view errors in your designs sorted by count and type, via the "Errors by count" tab. This helps to fix issues in your designs in bulk!
Super excited to share I’ve been promoted to Product Design Manager at
@discord
. Growing our team and being able to work alongside such talented designers has been some of the most rewarding moments of my career. Can’t wait to see where we go from here!
I built a new react counter component using framer motion. I needed it for a project so I figured I'd open-source it. Allows counting and inputting a number, if that number is beyond a min/max it adjusts it. Codesandbox link in the tweet below
Built a
@figmadesign
plugin over the weekend to auto generate a table of contents page that lists all of the pages of your document. It uses auto layout to organize them in a list so the frame can scale. Would people be interested in using something like this?
Going to be open-sourcing Discord's theming
@figmadesign
plugin soon. I built it for teams to automatically theme designs if you have a color mapping. It also shows you what layers weren't themed so you can correct them and make sure they're in your mapping!
Work update! I’m leading design of
@figma
Community along with
@soundsvisual01
! (Yes I’ve been at Figma for a bit, but now officially on this team).
Bugs, ideas, requests send our way! Excited to share what we’re working on soon.
Today marks four years at
@discord
for me and it's still pretty cool. I've been super fortunate to work with an amazing team. Here are some of my favorite projects:
Today is three years at Discord! I feel incredibly fortunate to work with such a talented design team and to work on a product that lets people talk with the people they care about.

The perfect place to watch a third of your company quit because you banned talking about politics in the office, then write articles against D&I because your bitter about it.
hey
we're updating our brand look. improved logo, font, colors. not too different: just a little friendlier.
Discord has become a place where people come to explore, grow, and belong. so we're updating our look to be just as welcoming:
After an intense 15 months of review, today Adobe and Figma have decided to end our pending merger, as we no longer see a path toward regulatory approval of the deal.
Would people be interested in a visual guide to how Figma works behind the scenes? There are a lot of plugin tutorials but I think this is usually skipped over.
Holy shit, my wife and I finished paying 150k worth of student debt today after 10+ years of paying (we started in school). It's honestly insane how insurmountable the debt from school can be. Even though we're finally free of it I would 100% support loan forgiveness today...
Discord is giving everyone at the company next week off. I'm super grateful and hope that other companies follow suit because we collectively need a moment to recharge and give our brains a break.
I’ve officially moved from San Francisco back to Chicago! Super grateful to Discord for allowing me to work from home and be closer to family. Even though I can’t see them yet, being closer to family and friends has been amazing for my mental health. Also, god damn it’s cold.
