This month, we are exploring the idea of liminal space through the vast, empty world of Blame!...
@tsutomu_nihei
I would love the opportunity to interview you for this video 😀
An underrated trick to gaining confidence when you don't have many skills: Become helpful. Help solve other people's problems. Bonus, the process will help you realize your existing skills and gain new ones.

taught me how to layer, combine base materials with precious ones, even embed hidden messages. Never commissioned a full building, but made his mark with his incisions and additions to existing spaces. Here's some photos I took in

Some photos of

. I've never seen this place so quiet, so void of tourism. It did make me wonder - if you ever lived in a place like this, would you eventually get used to it? Would it become mundane? Or would you discover new beauty every day?
If you want to be a content creator while having a full time job, you need to:
1. Go hard during the week, and have great separation between work, content and personal life. Take weekends off.
2. Work during the weekends.
Do you agree? If so, which one are you?

My highschool was in a little run-down shed. But this place helped me find my voice and my passion. Recently, the
@VSB39
decided to take away our building. No consultation. No transition plans. And it looks like many more schools in
#vancouver
will face the same fate.

Does anyone know of an online service app that allows you to upload and create a searchable database of your own video footage? (Similar to
@Artgrid_io
) Currently using Google drive with the team but having a visual preview and search by tags tool would be awesome.

My new video explores ideas like speed, distraction, hurry sickness, and labyrinths. It also captures footage from my most recent trip to Venice. Check it out!

Practicing architecture in real life can look VERY different from the stuff you learn in architecture school. The biggest difference is the nature of the projects, which impact everything from your workflow, day to day tasks, to your creative output. I've broken it down here:
THIS JUST IN:

's car-free zone announced.
Starting in 2024, cars will be banned in much of 1st-4th arrondissements.
Zone will be reserved for pedestrians, cyclists, transit, the handicapped, local residents.
Offenders will be automatically ticketed.
Spent the week trying to figure out if there's a faster way to put up three partitions in our office... our contractor says 4 weeks to build but
@CityofVancouver
says 7 weeks just to process the permit... why so slow

I always thought it was “Most people overestimate what they can do in a day+underestimate what they can do in a year.” I looked up the origin of the

today and it was “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year+underestimate what they can do in TEN years.”😆
The online education economy is booming, but are there limits to what you can learn online/teach yourself? What are things you need to learn by working under a more experienced person? How long is enough to absorb the knowledge? When are you ready?

If you could put all your efforts into one thing for the next five years, would you focus on:
1. Becoming top 1% in an existing category
2. Creating a new category?
Curious to hear your thoughts.

The field of architecture is very broad, and depending on your skills and interests, you can specialize in different areas of architecture, like:
- Project Management
- Building Science/Sustainability
- Interior Design
- Construction Administration
Real buildings are like a living organism. It takes a whole team of architects and engineers to ensure that the building will function without problems. A big part of your job is to ensure that all the pieces come together to strengthen the overall design intent..
I was afraid I might be missing out on

reviews. Comforting yet slightly sad. 🥲
Real projects have hard constraints.
The program is often pre-determined by the client and whether it's a public or private project, it needs to be feasible and promise a good return on investment. Only then, can you can start to take some liberties with your design.
Hello loyal 49 Twitter followers!
Just made a new video on Brutalism... The most divisive architecture style in the world! Hopefully it will bring some entertainment and learning during these dark times... Check it out!😁

Real projects need to be properly managed and specified, meaning your day-to-day might not include as much design work as you expected. Instead, you may spend time on non-design tasks like:
- coordinating with engineers
- talking to clients or product reps
- admin tasks
Real projects take YEARS to complete.
Because of this stretched out timeline, you may find yourself spending months, maybe years on one phase of a project. This could be anything from schematic design to construction documentation.
In this video, I interviewed Scott Kemp, an Architect who has been working with Indigenous communities for the past 15 years. We talk about designing WITH (not FOR) communities.

Here's part II of my interview with Architect Scott Kemp. In this video, we talk about the architectural education, career, and the profession. As I navigate my own path through this profession, I found his approach refreshing and optimistic.

If your bachelor's program is accredited, you don't need to do a masters to get your license. I explain the stpe by step process in this video:
Happy new year! 😊
@Austen
Do you use GTD method for task management? I love the interface so I've been thinking of switching to Sunsama but it doesn't sort tasks by context.
@Chnoopsy
@levelsio
@ProductHunt
Wow very cool! I haven’t experimented with AI much but I think it will be a great second brain or third hand of sorts for architects in the near future. Especially for testing out multiple design iterations.

@DreamOfVenice
Maybe Venice an exception to the rule because it's kind of like a labyrinth. Maybe it's designed to reveal itself slowly so it never becomes mundane.
@theseaweedgirl_
I imagine time has something to do with it too. When you're working and living, you're busy doing just that.. when you're on vacation, you're buying yourself dedicated time to explore and find beauty in that place.
@chadvictory
Thanks! It's been fun exploring different topics and video styles this year, hopefully I can focus in and double down on a few key themes for 2022. Can't believe it's already been +1 year on

Great recommendation. Actually started watching

Grit by Angela Duckworth. She gives a pretty pretty good argument for why passion is cultivated, not found. Lots of great stories and examples in there.
@DrNickBailey
@dami_lee
Omg this is hilarious 😆 we are two different people with the same name! The books are written by the OTHER dami lee who is a very talented cartoonist
@MajedAlalawneh
Try to focus on the quality of your projects rather than number. Max 50 pages. If you don't have enough projects, architecture competitions are a great way to build it up.
@BustosWill
I don't know an architect specific platform! Most of my freelance work was through my professional connections. (my bosses/colleagues, too busy to take on small jobs) Little breadcrumb jobs but some eventually grew into bigger projects. 😊 I'll make a video on this soon.
@dabidoYT
Personal satisfaction probably has the biggest impact, in terms of enjoying the journey, creating consistently, or putting out high quality content. But I struggle with this a lot! The videos that give me the most personal satisfaction typically do worst with the algorithm 😅
@savvyretirement
I use Premiere. I have editors that do most of the editing. Only for specific videos, like videos on my personal projects, I do the rough edit (generally laying out the footage on the timeline with music) and the editor takes it from there.
@jpsowin
Youtube gives me suggestions on the best times to post based on when my audience is most active, so I follow that. I just trust the almighty algorithm to feed the content to who needs/wants it 😆
@Omdeep_Pabla
I think they're both beautiful buildings. Sadly, the Aqua Tower seems like a thermal bridging nightmare. Initially I thought they'd figured out a clever way to separate the balconies but was surprised to learn that they're all continuous slabs from inside to outside. 😨
@MphelaTd
If you watch my first videos you will see that I had a lot of issues with vocal fry, uptalk, filler words, etc. not so clean! It helped to keep listening to my own videos, and have a person correct these issues whenever I’m filming. And lots of practice!
@jolocktov
I can imagine the restoration process being incredibly satisfying yet terrifying. I'm sure he feels like Scarpa watching over his every move. 😆
@jolocktov
Not this time, but I went five years ago, before the restoration. I loved the decaying nature of the building, but from the photos in the article, it looks like it has had a breath of new life, esp. with those new gold leafs! What a treat for the architect who got to restore it.
