the thing I most frequently notice about Loveless is how strong the melodies are on their own. you could play those songs with any variety of instruments/arrangements and they’d still sound great. that’s some good songwriting 👌

Speaking of underappreciated bands, just watched the This Is Pop documentary on one of my favorites: XTC.
Fascinating look into how a record label and marketers completely fucked over a band by trying to make them something they weren't.

my high school band. just a duo with me on guitar and vocals and my friend Kevin on drums + Rhodes. he played it like Nate Kinsella with the Rhodes set up over his drum kit!
basically no overdubs on this EP we made except for the vocals and a couple of little guitar things.

this 2005 ‘67 Telecaster has been my main guitar for the last decade. It used to be in much better shape, but years of playing and a lot of sweat have imprinted it with a lot of…uh…DNA. check out that bridge!

minor vent: we’ve been to KEXP HQ a handful of times over the years on tours, dropped off records, followed up with DJs/MDs, and always and only gotten radio silence. anyone have any tips for getting your music on the air? it’s extra important to us now that they’re local, too!

this 2002 Vox AC30 TB/6 has been my main live and recording amp since it was purchased used in 2016. this amp has actually been treated really well; all of the wear and tear is from the previous owner 😮

this 1998 Gibson SG-Z was my first nice guitar. I’ve had it since I was 17 years old. It’s had a number of headstock breaks and modifications done to it over the years, but a surprising number of the odd features on it are stock. It’s a pretty rare model!

Deluxe Memory Man, probably the coolest and vibiest pedal ever made. These things have a ton of color and character, I mostly just use the Chorus on it. This one got a custom dayglo paint job a few years ago 😌

I played at least 15 Teles before they dragged out a beat up case and opened it to reveal this guitar. I said “no! No black, no rosewood!,” but they insisted that I try it and, as soon as I grabbed the neck, I knew it was *the one*. It’s been my favorite guitar ever since!
