@QuestingHS @UnusualHeat @MachmerHall We sold a Hard Spun filly last September very well. He is a very good stallion who can be used commercially and also as a racehorse sire. Our goal is to breed both and he fits the bill. Incredible value at $25k this year.

It’s not just a Canadian issue. The amount of money we all spend to fund these alphabets and corporations executives salaries and expense accounts that mostly do nothing to grow the game is astounding. Imagine if we had the Department of Racing Efficiency DORE redirect those resources into purses and marketing to grow the sport.

Buyers also have huge successes. Tepin we sold for $140k won $4.4 million and sold for $8 million. Search Results we sold for $310k won $1.9 million sold for $3.6 million. Breeders produce product for owners and some of them crush it. I have others if you need a longer list of winners.

Cooper referred to the impact the smaller breeding pools could have on field sizes at the races. He said, “The optimum field size for maximising turnover is 11 or 12 runners.” Interesting from the English perspective. We have American tracks that consider 10 a full field.

We traditionally don’t use turf stallions in our breeding decisions. We didn’t breed to Golden Pal for the same reasons. I am fully aware we have bred some top turf runners like Tepin and Gina Romantica with our breedings. Commercially we have been wrong with Golden Pal and will probably be with Cogburn as well.
