@SommePhantom Very interesting Tom. I would like to read all of that document, do you think it’s well known and read or that duplicates exist elsewhere.

@apg1916 @sommecourt I’m beginning to think you may have expanded your collection to other areas of the house, has Helen noticed yet? Great to see you on the other side of the motorway yesterday, me on the way to Verdun you leaving.

@SommePhantom I guided 16 clients up there on the 10th and paid my respects to my friend John Steels, East Yorkshire Regiment who was killed in action on the 5th November 1916.

@SommePhantom I don’t think I knew that Tom. Interesting private inscription, WHO GAVE HIS LIFE FOR HIS COUNTRY AT MONTAUBAN "LOOK BEYOND THE SWORD TO THE CROSS" He was attached to H.Q. Staff 76th Infantry Brigade 3rd Division.

@OldBill504 @sommecourt @BuddNicholas Thanks for this picture, it’s like seeing old friends again. Even though my chosen period has always been the Great War, these three books sent me down a career path which led to a stint in the Royal Marines.

@otagoview @GreatWarGroup The German Memorial once stood in Bapaume Civil Cemetery. Very unusual that it was moved and reconstructed here as most were just demolished.

@NealRussell17 @OldFrontLinePod Hi Neal, just realised I probably passed you in rather inclement weather walking down green lane to the AIF Cemetery Flers. We were on bikes.

@sg_teaching @sommecourt @MatMcLachlan He has not been awarded the Star, the pictograms depict all three potential awards and is found on all Australian service files, but the star has been overwritten with n e (not entitled)

Out with a friend today, some of the more popular sites but we didn’t see anybody all day. Newfoundland Memorial Park, Thiepval, Authuille, Le Sars, etc. A lovely feeling of spring in the air.

A few days walking the Somme with @apg1916 very lucky with the weather, not so lucky with the finds. But we generally come across a couple of interesting bits worthy of further research and not found before. Clay pipe stem with LONDON on it and a fragment of German ID disk.

@HistoryandMoore @MemorialVerdun When you get two minutes have a look in the war diary of the 2nd Battalion A.I.F. For Pozieres July 1916 Great little story with illustration.
