Finally, the Mg42 he carries is an old hand in itself.
One of the first c.18k produced in 1942 with the slab-sided cocking handle.
So, it’s feasible this is a 2 year old mg he is responsible for.
Well, those are my personal takes on this pic.

A thread on the rather overlooked southern flank, where the largely untested 352 Volksgrenadier Division (VGD) crossed the Our river at Ammeldingen an der Our, attacking the resting US 28ID on the Hoesdorf plateau.

The Czech ZB26/30, re-designated Mg26/30(t)
Fore-runner to the Bren, it was used in great quantities in early War, by 1941 though, was largely a 2nd line weapon.
Was encountered on D-Day being used by 716ID & WSS at end of War.

Christmas is always bitter sweet for me.
Lost my Mum today to an incredibly brave 3 year fight against cancer.
Colon, lung, brain & bone. Everywhere.
She passed 30 minutes after my wife & I turned up to join my Dad & brothers.
