it's common for the 1st overall pick in the MLB draft to not make the big leagues for the first few YEARS.
and even then, there is no guarantee that they make it to the "Show".

and signing bonuses range from $5k - $8,000,000+.
following the draft, you get paid $25,000 - $35,000 for a full year in the minor leagues.

you can also sign a "free agent" deal if you don't get drafted.
