His opponent Jeremy Sylestine outraised Garza by a staggering amount: $1.2 million compared to just $204,000 for the incumbent. The bulk of that support came from high-dollar GOP donors.

The City of Austin's plan to build its own jail will result in:
- more wrongful arrests not being thrown out
- people wrongfully arrested spending longer in jail
- more people being wrongfully arrested
- a huge waste of public funds

A truly incredible turn of events reflecting how much their values diverge from the people in this city.
Only possible b/c of the sustained protests & the pressure that's built. Wow.

& all 10 City Council members have signed the No Cash From Cops pledge, agreeing to reject all campaign contributions from the police union. Looks like they're the 1st full local dais in the country to make this specific pledge.

I put off my whole life for over 10 years to pay off my school loans so I could start doing work I really cared about w/o worrying about how much I made.
And I hope they cancel every bit of college debt for everyone so others can follow their heart on their timeline.
