Using BitVM, we indeed found a way to natively verify ZK proofs on Bitcoin without requiring any changes to Bitcoin 🧡
We are going to TRULY scale

@BobBodily
@chainway_xyz
It's true! Our work builds upon the efforts of
@ZeroSync_
and
@stskeeps
(
@cartesiproject
) with their work on BitVM. While the BitVM ZKP verifier was theoretically possible, our work goes beyond by including both the verifier logic and the aspects of what is verified = Rollup
Today we release our open source Proof of Innocence protocol that allows you to prove that your withdrawals on Tornado Cash are not from bad actors, while still maintaining your anonymity. 🔥🖥️⛓️
1/The first EVM rollup on
#Bitcoin
is on its way.
And yes, it's truly the first 🧡
How do we differ from existing EVM sidechains?
The key difference:
Chainway’s rollup is built purely on Bitcoin, secured by Bitcoin, and fully EVM compatible.
Let’s get into some details 🧵
1/The first ZK rollup secured by Bitcoin & for Bitcoin 🧡
With Bitcoin as our data availability layer, users pay for Bitcoin block space for each EVM transaction, contributing to Bitcoin’s security and also relying on it.
Let’s cover how this symbiotic relationship is formed 🧵

1/How does a sovereign ZK rollup on
#Bitcoin
inherit full Bitcoin security?
The answer lies in how we combine client-side validation, recursive ZK proofs, and the Ordinals protocol.
See how Chainway does it 👇🧵
1/ We are building a trustless layer on
#Bitcoin
using its blockspace, not through an intrinsic BTC peg mechanism.
This makes our rollup fully secured by Bitcoin blockchain.
That being said, when the time comes, we will be the first to integrate a trust-minimized peg 🧵

1/‘Chainway Answers’ addresses a key question 🧡
How are the proofs verified in our rollup?
The proofs are verified by the nodes within the rollup's p2p network; settlement takes place within the rollup.
This is called client-side validation.

Why a ZK rollup over an optimistic one?
Firstly, ZK rollups use validity proofs attesting to the legitimacy of transactions upfront, ensuring quick finality for light clients.
Light client finality takes 7 days in optimistic ones.

Hello builders and developers 👋
The first developer meetup of 2023 is right around the corner. We are gathering for the Chainway Web3 Developer Meetup on January 26th at our office in Levent.
1/ ZK rollups are causing a stir in the
#Bitcoin
dev community.
As we embark on a new era in Bitcoin, let's journey through Bitcoin's Zero Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) history and salute the devs who led the charge 🫡 🧵
9/ We are committed to building our Bitcoin secured rollup in public. Insights and contributions from the developer community are essential to us. Delve into specifics of our Bitcoin data availability adapter by visiting Chainway’s Github Repository:
We started our internal demo sessions with our co-founder
@ekremmmbal
taking the lead and talking about Proof of Innocence solution at Chainway Web3 Developer Meetup 🔥
We continue to build even in stormy weather.
This month's Chainway Web3 Developer Meetup led to deeper discussions and more technical conversations than ever 🧑💻
2/Chainway's ZK rollup now has an internal testnet with multiple rollup nodes and a sequencer running on Bitcoin 🤩
But that's not all! We've also taken a deep dive into BitVM.
BitVM’s concrete implementation is on the way 🧡

We are happy to see privacy community is gathering in Istanbul.
Spread the word, invite your friends who are interested in cool stuffs in privacy 😎
It’s time to announce our second guest speaker at
#ETHPrivacy2023
🎉👏
@0x_orkun
, technical co-founder of
@chainway_xyz
, will give a keynote about Mathematical Compliance: The Future of Proof of Innocence
🧵 1/3
5/Battling the HODL mind virus?
@iansagstette
from
@EspressoSys
will share alternative privacy and scaling solutions that could empower the next wave of grassroots Bitcoin adoption, without a reliance on custodial applications.
8/ Our open-source Bitcoin Data Availability Adapter for Sovereign SDK is our first and most important step to building our rollup secured by Bitcoin and Zero Knowledge Proofs.
4/ Why is data availability important for rollups? If rollup operators withhold the necessary data, significant security and trust concerns emerge such as inability to independently verify and confirm the state change or guarantee the functionality of the rollup for users.
Hello web3 builders and developers 👋
Our monthly Chainway Web3 Developer Meetup is approaching 💫
We invite you to fill out the form if you are a web3 developer or a software engineer who wants to transition to web3
6/In our rollup’s final version, light nodes will be able to verify the full rollup state simply by retrieving the ZK proof from the latest Bitcoin block 👌
This will allow anyone to have trustless access to our rollup even with their mobile phones 🧡
6/ How can Bitcoin play a role here? Bitcoin's robust security can serve as an anchor for rollups, ensuring that data is published to all nodes. All rollup data is published and reconciled on Bitcoin.
2/ DA is foundational for blockchain security. Every transaction and every block must be transparent and available to construct the latest state. So, DA nodes ensure blockchain state is published. But this rigorous process comes with scalability constraints.
5/ For example, ZK rollups have a straightforward approach as they provide a validity proof, like a ZK-SNARK/STARK. But, the issue of data availability is still crucial. Without having access to the data, rollups liveness will fail and all the funds on the rollup will get frozen.
🧡 Straight from Citrea Internal Hacker House 🧡
Our devs have been heads-down, coding furiously, proving Citrea and securing it with Bitcoin.
This is the final push before public devnet!
Here are some updates from Citrea Hacker House 👀
🧵 1/5
7/ Even if a rollup faces DA issues, any node that wants to retrieve the latest rollup state can do so by scanning Bitcoin blocks, which serve as the only source of truth.
3/ Layer 2 solutions, especially rollups, are leading the way in scalability. Rollups batch multiple transactions and submit them as a single entry to back to L1. By doing so, they enhance the L1’s throughput and make transactions cheaper by processing them off-chain.
At the end of each month, we are here to discuss blockchain topics and Web3 products at our space in Istanbul.
Our second meetup topics:
Airdrop distribution & Web3 startups
NFT use cases
Virtual Machines
Introduction to Web3, Finance & Chainway
Scaling Solutions
3/Curious about how Sovereign SDK enables rollups on any base layer?
@cemozer_
from
@sovereign_labs

11/So, what is the BitVM team’s current plan?
They're building a BitVM implementation that aims to create a generic CPU on Bitcoin.
This would allow anyone to write & execute programs within the constraints and security model of BitVM.
