This is happening all over midcoast Maine. My parents' town is a little south of this district — this past year, the local Dems rallied to defeat a school board candidate who was in a raging lather because her (homeschooled) kid once saw a Pride flag in public.
A rural Maine school board tried to eliminate a policy protecting trans students 200+ ppl came to a meeting to speak out against the move The board still nixed the policy, but the town rallied together to unseat the members + install a progressive majority

@andreloez @AEAjournals The error is so basic and so devastating to the thesis. It reminds me of the Naomi Wolf "death recorded" fiasco.

@andreloez @AEAjournals When I read this paper in 2021, I was baffled by the fundamental error in its approach. I thought perhaps I was missing something because it wasn't my field. Thank you for taking it on in such a clear and thorough way.
@MattGrossmann For example, here's a sample of the dead of the 153e Infantry Regt on a single day at Verdun (April 7, 1916, so within the study's Pétain-command timeframe). But they're from Paris, Avignon, Corsica, Normandy, etc. not from a single region or municipality.

@1418research If you DM me a name, I can run it through Filae (French vital records) and see if she pops up. If you know a region of France, the 1921 and 1926 censuses are available on departmental archives websites.
