“A college class had two teaching assistants: one male and one female. At the end of the semester, the students scored the male TA higher on course evaluations, while the female TA got five times as many negative reviews. There’s just one problem: They were the same person”.
Students in an online class were told they had one of these 2 TAs. But behind the scenes, @EmilyKhazan, left, fulfilled TA duties for all 136 students. When student evaluations came in, though, guess which TA scored higher? #WomeninScience #womeninstem

Only 0.5% of science PhDs become a full professor, according to this @nature article. Imagine the difference if graduate programs devoted energy & time training the other 99.5% of its graduates for non-tenure/beyond the bench positions.

Harassment of scientists is no doubt a public health issue.
@JHUPress For those reasons we should anticipate and expect the attacks against American science and scientists to accelerate as we head towards the 2024 presidential election, and this will be tragic.

Today is #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience and a great day to reflect on all the women who paved the way for us, the women (and men) who have lifted us up and supported us, and those that continue to inspire us so that we can pave the way for ours girls.

“A typical neuron makes about ten thousand connections to neighboring neurons. Given the billions of neurons, this means there are as many connections in a single cubic centimeter of brain tissue as there are stars in the Milky Way galaxy.” - @davideagleman.
Thrilled to share my first proper Milky Way shot in years. This was captured off a small island far from city lights, allowing me to see the incredible detail of our galactic core. If more people could see the night sky like this, I believe the world would be a better place.

@ctlyle1 Still haven’t gotten over the loss of my two - one year apart. They never really leave us though, do they? ❤️

Who are your favorite women in STEM accounts that you follow? Comment below do that we can all follow!.
If I were to start a podcast I would focus on women scientists who are at the early stage of their careers but have the intense desire to see change happen in this world - and are doing it. No celebrities, no well known names. Only those that haven’t had a platform yet. Would.

@bessbell Dropping my 6yo off on the first day of Kindergarten- walking towards the school preparing myself for the emotional goodbye of love, hugs, kisses and tears and she stops me and says - you can wait right here and marches into school without even looking back 😭. Never recovered 😂.
