They might start out 70mph, but the winds aren’t nearly as strong by the time they get over the mountains and into the valleys where people live. I see forest fires a lot, but in the mountains.

Storms lose steam coming over mountains from certain directions. And we don’t have nearly as much vegetation as Cali

Chicago & Detroit are big but most in the Midwest live in rural zones
