Two years ago today I triggered an avalanche that buried and subsequently killed my wife Laura Kosakoski - I am still processing and learning to live with the guilt and grief of that day. I can’t describe how much I miss her ❤️

This is the last view LK would have seen. I skied up to the site of the avalanche today with some friends for a small ceremony. We hung some flags, burned some sweetgrass, spread some of her ashes & had a moment of silence. The sun came out for a moment & we felt her with us ❤️

One year ago today I swallowed a bunch of pills and ended up in hospital. I am sorry I let myself get to that place, but I am glad I asked for help when I did and that I am here a year later.

I have to live with the fact that I triggered Laura’s avalanche & ultimately couldn’t save her - it’s a horrible reality to face. I’m not entirely sure how to ever accept or process that. I am working on trying to acknowledge, accept & forgive myself a bit - it’s bloody hard ❤️

Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of Laura’s avalanche - she died the following day on January 11th. Please take a moment this weekend to think about her and maybe reflect on one of her life motto’s - Be Kind. Always. ❤️

Went back to where LK’s avalanche happened today with friends. We found her skis, poles, gloves and goggles. It was very emotional, but also very powerful and beautiful to see the alpine meadow and bowl in a different light

5 years ago Marc Andre went missing. Him & Tom Livingstone were at my place for a bit in Canmore before he went to AK. I still have one of his poles that I use on alpine climbing days. They would try something hard & then make wonderful curries on their return. Miss you bud ❤️

I took some of LK’s ashes to the summit of Mt Columbia and set her free into the wind. She blew back over me which she would have found hilarious, so I can’t help but feel that she made it happen. I love you my Mister ❤️💔

Laura and I got legally married along the shores of the Yukon River in Whitehorse. It was intimate, casual and beautiful - just how we wanted it. Although my heart is broken & there’s an incredible hole in my life I am so glad that we got to share these experiences together ❤️

I never thought I was someone who would consider suicide until this year. I had strong urges at times, but luckily I have a strong support network I could lean on to get through. Not everyone has that. Reach out to those who are hurting, those gestures made a difference to me ❤️

Yesterday I picked up a book & a card from LK fell out of it with this photo on it. I didn’t know whether to smile or cry, so I did both - I’m always shocked at how we can hold seemingly conflicting emotions within us - it was nice to hear from her, even if it made me sad ❤️

I put the shoes away and did a 4 day 527kms backcountry bike camping trip with 6900m of climbing from Jasper to Canmore via Nordegg. It rained every day, the riding was hard, the company great and I saw parts of Alberta I didn’t know existed! Man, what a place!

Ebikes are game changers. My mom lives somewhere hilly, biking was hard for her. After some prodding she got one, she now bikes every day & loves it. The real bonus is we were able to go for a great spin together this morning, me on my regular bike & it was great for both of us!

There is a special healing power in striding and sliding. I wasn’t sure how I would handle getting out on skis in the backcountry, luckily it helped me connect with LK and myself - the terrain is very mellow, but the feelings incredibly deep ❤️
