I think the most important thing to learn in our adult lives is the power of introspection.
And the most important thing to unlearn is associating your performance to your sense of worth.

As someone who worked at Boeing long enough to see the beginning of the decadence, I have to say you are spot on.
Who knows whether shareholder primacy is net positive/negative overall. But as far as Boeing goes it has sapped all ethics, ambition, and common sense.

But you only have to look at who benefits more by a high share price within the company to understand how decisions are made.

Journaling is one of the most impactful habits I've developed over the past decade.
If journaling is part of your 2024 resolutions, then read on.
Here are three levels of journaling so you can go from zero to journaling today:
Level 1 (5-10 minutes): Start with a gratitude
I get really excited when I find people that write well and don’t know they write well. I enjoy the challenge of shaking them into believing they got a gift.

This weekend we threw a party for our best friends from the internet.
We called it Thesis—and it was a full day of ideas, talks, and conversations.
I’m waking today filled with gratitude that we all got to do it together. Here are some of my favorite moments from the event:
While some cheer the imminent fall of Roe v. Wade, I try to wrap my head around why diapers are taxed as a luxury, we still don't have paid parental leave, and we don't have a formula reserve (like oil). You want to support life in this country? Let's fix those first.
My first sales quarter at Google, I had 30% attainment. Everyone else in my team had over 90%+.
I was distraught. It was my first quarter ever doing sales, and here I was performing abysmally. I had moved from Washington to California, and thought I was not going to last 6
Alright some very quick (assumptive) analysis:
1. Looks like the company was nuking most of the sales org. If they’re keeping <25% of an org the calculus isn’t, “Are they doing a good job and have we given them a fair shake?” It’s more, “Who are the top performers we need to
I find it funny that when I walk into a restuarant by myself and pull out my little notebook, they start treating me like a food critic.

I’d love for you to expand on this since I trust your judgment + you are an artist. A common concern of models like Stable Diffusion is that they don’t compensate the artists whose art was used to train the models. Is is not a harmful behavior to take work w/out attribution?
I don't take for granted that nowadays I have 10+ great essays to read from friends every weekend. A year ago this wasn't even a thing for me. This is part of the magic of creative communities–boundless inspiration.

Most of these companies didn’t need to make these cuts for business continuity. They chose to do it to preserve their share price. In the case of Google (my employer), high performers were laid off, so it wasn’t about trimming the fat. There were other ways to do this.

It’s really trial by fire, but there are ways to learn faster. Two books that have influenced my sales career are The Challenger Sale and Never Split the Difference.
Also, abstracting sales into its subelements helps ppl overcome limiting beliefs & improve fast. Happy to expand.

I love photography.
I've never had a fancy camera, nor a lot of training. But I will catch myself visiting my VSCO account and saying to myself "I can't believe that I saw that AND captured it."
Like many creative endeavors, I dismissed this feeling because I wasn't a pro...
My timeline is filled with people undertaking creative experiments or just playing around and I love it. More of this, less of dunking on people whose lives we know nothing about.
