A quick🧵 on this
@UAW
election: Four years ago I met a couple of guys at a protest who wanted to create change in the UAW and their efforts led to the historic shift in control of the union that we’re seeing now.
@UAW
President Shawn Fain says he sees “no point” in meeting with Donald Trump when he’s in Detroit tomorrow. “I don't think the man has any bit of care about what our workers stand for, what the working class stands for. He serves a billionaire class.”
I’m at
@GM
’s Davison Road Processing Center, the automaker’s largest customer care and after sales plant, where workers are getting ready to go on strike.
Get engaged in the dark in the woods and the pictures will be real trippy. Gram said: “It’s about time.” This is a placeholder ring until the real one comes in but I love it!
@UAW
President Shawn Fain has called on all of GM’s workers at CCA centers (18 across the country) to go on strike. This will add 3,100 members to picket lines.
Four years ago this month I started covering GM and the auto industry at
@detroitnews
. Sometimes I still can’t believe how cool it is that I cover autos in Detroit for a Detroit newspaper.
I’m here at
@Ford
’s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne where workers are picketing. They’re receiving a lot of beeps in support from drivers going down Michigan Ave.
I nearly had to tackle a person to get one of these. I went to 10 stores and found only two with copies left. If only that need for the newspaper existed before the end of
@vindicator
...maybe the end wouldn’t be here so soon. RIP, dear friend.
My family gets me. I cried my eyes out when I got this gift: My aunt’s old Vindicator delivery box, the 1908 Vindicator bound volume, Vindy pens, chip bag clips, magnets and a pin. I can’t believe this 150-year-old paper is gone.

Everyone clap for my dear friend and colleague. She’s the best teammate and I’m so grateful I got to work with her in TWO newsrooms.
I’m sad to see her go but so excited for what she’s gonna do next.
👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That’s a wrap for me at
@detroitnews
! It’s been a memorable ride over the last 3.5 years on the business & autos team, especially these last few months covering the UAW negotiations & strike.
I keep seeing this phrase “brand journalism” on marketing job listings. Can we stop that? That’s not journalism. That’s writing promotional content for a company.
Under 150 days until the biggest party I’ll ever throw. I mostly just cannot wait to show off Youngstown 😍I guess marrying the person I love is also cool 😎
Today
@hmackayDN
and I saved a sick finch from the streets of Detroit. Not pictured: Hannah the hero delivering him to a bird rehab in Saline after working all day. His name is Newsy in case you wondered. He will be healed and released🙂
This reporter and this poodle are fully vaccinated and ready to cover all the in-person events and hit all the dog parks. Thanks for the great shot
@JGrzelewski
A decade ago I had a pixie cut (yikes) and placed first with fellow Vindy colleagues in the APME awards. Celebrating my 10th year as a professional newspaper reporter which is NUTS.
Just finished my last paper for my master’s degree from
@michiganstateu
and NOW I NEED ICE CREAM. I completed this program in two years while working full time as a reporter. I don’t recommend doing that unless you don’t mind losing sleep and sanity.
Today I’m 31…which feels weird to say. The day started with delicious doughnuts from
@BreanaCNoble
, and then
@JGrzelewski
bought lunch for me. I mean, can my team be any more awesome?
Happening now:
@UAW
President Shawn Fain and
@BernieSanders
are hosting a live broadcast that will feature stories from three Detroit Three hourly workers. Sanders kicks off the "fighting back against corporate greed" discussion.
A decade ago today I graduated with my college roomies from the best place on earth
@PointParkU
. I had no idea what my career in journalism would look like but today I’m on a fierce, all-female autos team at a Detroit daily and the NYT credited one of our stories 👏👏
I ran this little squirrel dude to a wildlife rehabber last night after finding him all alone in my garden. She was such cool lady and rehabs 100 squirrels a year!! She reports today little dude is bruised but OK and eating lots. If you ever need a rehabber, I know one now!
OUR DEFINING MOMENT.
A new industry is being born. New standards are being set.
It's not just about Lordstown.
Everywhere, our message is the same: Our country deserves good, safe, living-wage union jobs.
It's time to build an EV industry that puts workers first.
#UAW
Members of the Factory Zero team, including Plant Director Jim Quick (second from left), who got emotional when talking about today: “This is a great day for us,” he said. “The team deserves it.”
I’m back home in the great Mahoning Valley. Check out GM Lordstown Assembly, which is now home to Lordstown Motors Corp. and its Endurance electric pickup truck.
@MayorMikeDuggan
@GovWhitmer
@SecretaryPete
are announcing a Binational Alternative Fuels Corridor between the U.S. and Canada for EV charging. We’re here on the Detroit River across from Canada.
I’m reflecting on the five years I spent
@vindicator
. I made so many memories there. So many friends. I learned a great deal, too. Here’s one of those memories with
@JGrzelewski
at the
@CanfieldFair
. We loved being fair reporters.
I did my taxes, bought some rain pants, drank some whiskey with
@juliejalopy
, had all of my friends and family wish me happy birthday and I got these cookies in the mail from
@MarkMSweetwood
. It’s been a good day. Cheers to 30.
UAW President Shawn Fain: “We are united to serve you. Now, we’re here to come together...for the war against our one & only true enemy: multibillion dollar corporations & employers that refuse to give our members their fair share.”
