@joeljean9 FWIW I very much agree and am glad folks are investing in it. That said I have been a bit baffled by the focus on solutions that evidently don’t solve the current power crunch rather than efforts that evidently could.

@duncan__c I’ve been trying to tell the data center companies that they can do 24/7 with renewables and storage for years. No amount of modeling and spreadsheets has been able to convince them.

This outperformance is based in large part on an assumption of either (a) policy manipulation to drive windfall gains (45V) or (b) large buyers paying a premium for existing clean energy to appear green. Would love to be convinced otherwise.
Energy stocks make up 7 of the top 10 S&P 500 performers so far this year, but Constellation — the largest U.S. nuclear plant operator spun out from a larger utility when atomic energy seemed to be in secular decline — is in the lead, with shares up nearly 35%, per Mizuho analyst

@JosephMajkut No. Wind & solar tax credits are solving a fundamentally different problem from grid spending. Tax credits (in theory, roughly) recognize the value of an externality that’s not being priced (C). Fed grid spending presumably addresses some other market failure (collective action?)

@ShanuMathew93 @duncan__c @atrembath @jacob_mays @James_McGinniss Some call this a portfolio… Which is the right way to do things, regardless of how much we luv 🫶 our “firm” resources. Which is why I said the point about “firm” is irrelevant.

@atrembath @duncan__c @jacob_mays @James_McGinniss This is… patently false for a genuinely off grid system, unless you’re cool with your data center being offline for weeks at a time and being subject to the whims of forced outages. It’s also… drum roll.. irrelevant!
