I'm not going to dunk on Ahmed, but I worked with an engineer who made it a crusade for a while to go "no drawings" about 3 months into getting hired.
No regard let alone a plan for:
- accessibility for prod or shop
- vendors
- budgets
- total workflow change for eng team

The thing nobody will tell you but me: if you have complex geometry that's hard to put into a good drawing...then you can always send along the model WITH the drawing.
Do you send raw data and skip graphs in reports? Or include graphs and optionally attach the raw data?

Of course, with the raw data you can pull out more information in theory, "it's all there."
It's also unreadable, inaccessible, and doesn't quickly or simply communicate the information you need to anyone else reading, any time in the future, without added context.

First, the main question: why is there even a shortage at all?
1) Demand has grown faster than capacity for years and is still trending that way.
2) The skilled labor is increasingly hard to come by for many manufacturers.
3) There's not enough core steel to go around.

Conversations around the transformer shortage focus a lot about "requiring" GOES (grain-oriented electrical steel) or "requiring" amorphous steel.
But this is backward. The DoE just sets efficiency rules. Physics and economics set the required core materials being used.

Well, amorphous is more expensive than GOES (~15%), but more efficient (50%+ better!).
US manufacturers claim it is less reliable, noisier, etc
But the tooling & skilled labor required to make amorphous cores is totally different than GOES cores. That's the real driving issue.
