Take a look at JLC for cnc if you haven’t recently, they’re doing instant quotes now at ~40% Xometry prices. This kills off a lot of 3d printing for me, just cut aluminum.
A motor housing that is mostly hollow and not optimized? Quantity 1, under $100, shipped.

Japanese robot twitter makes me wish translation was automatic so I could scroll their threads.
They’ve been trying these cheap spinning 360 lidars that are around $10 and they seem gtg. Think roomba lidars, and basically going to zero cost.

Hollow core torque motors are really useful, annoyingly expensive, and hard to encode but the prices are almost reasonable, maybe another year.
The cost makes sense when you take one apart or build one from scratch, hella nesting components as the magnets try to bite you.
hollow shaft motors are too expensive so im making my own hopefully it will work!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOPEFULLY IT WILL WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like
@Figure_robot
is using a cycloidal reducer for some or all of the joints on their new humanoid. Goldilocks reduction ratios of like 30:1.
They deleted a few of the major components from the animation but these pins floating in space hint at what's going on.

Giant 400Nm actuators still aren’t cheap but the price will fall fast. It’s just 3kg of steel, aluminum, and neodymium (nothing magical) but the base motor isn’t a common machine-wound drone motor size. Scale will fix the price.
400Nm is almost double that of a Honda Accord.

Myactuator is moving fast, the cycloidal lineup has tripled, they have a USA distributor, and their humanoid has a rendering.
It’s cycloidal heavy, and I believe they’re using the so-called rotary vector (RV) reducers which is a planetary followed by pinwheel type cycloidal.

It appears to have three wiring racetracks, and the output is huge compared to the diameter. Have they squeezed a cycloidal reducer into a GIM (Gear In Motor) style topography?

Cheap Steadywin gim8108-8 (~100usd) has some smart stuff. Stator mounted to the casing for part count, rotor+reducer is one assembly.
Reducer is undersized for the motor (cheaper), but equals torque efficiency vs smaller motor.
81 = stator dia
08 = stator height
8 = gear ratio

Steadywin/LK-Tech fat 100x15mm updates
They’ve made a lot of small changes to the design, the end plate is now on the controller side and is cast then machined. Most of the changes are to save cost.

I think that’s right, the cost plummets so fast that the argument ‘oh it should have been a gantry robot’ just doesn’t matter. Smartphones have way more sensor, computer, and connectivity than they need 99% of the time, but they’re cheap AND useful as hell.

A cycloidal reduction actuator finally dropped on aliexpress. Impact-tolerate torque for cheap, here we go.
Unknown reduction ratio, but this is 50nm, 700g, and likely backdrivable*.
*haven't tested.

This is a Brose mid drive with a sealed (broken) belt drive. At our office we’ve nuked Bosch and Shimano motors. Premium still doesn’t equal reliable with ebikes.
When someone new to ebikes asks me to recommend one I still don’t have an answer.

Air volume does equal suspension, but I’ve talked to hundreds of riders and most of them find skinny tires to be scary/intimidating and they generally feel fatter equals more stable. This isn’t true from a dynamics view, but heavier tires def damp out the steering.

Aaed used Dyneema thread which essentially doesn’t stretch (or creep over time). My friend Thomas McFarland built a bike frame using Dyneema in place of FUCKING WELDS.

From my discussions in Detroit, tier 1 auto suppliers all want to jump into stuff like brushless motors but they can’t unless they see a market of 200k-1m units a year IMMEDIATELY. I fault them for this, but I’ve been thinking a lot about how to bridge the gap from zero to 200k.

Update on the Robstride 120nm actuator:
Same diameter as the Steadywin GIM10015, but a 6mm thicker housing. I'm guessing it's a 20mm vs 15mm stator, which explains the jump in nominal torque from 30nm to 40nm.
