Heard yesterday 3000 acres of prime farmland 2 miles south of us is going to industrial solar as soon a the legal battles conclude. Sad day in the neighborhood when retiring "gentlemen" farmers sell out farmland to outsiders instead of those that have been renting their land.

The Earth makes it's own energy. Coal, oil and natural gas are examples. They can be utilized in a matter that does not cause excessive pollution. We figured that out over 50 years ago. The "big picture" of industrial scale "green" energy does not compare in overall efficiency.

Take it off the Internet. We had much more secure networks in the '70's and '80's running UNIX. I was there. Working in IT since 1980 at college and then on to USDA. I kept stuff running and secure.

I've had old timers tell me they could not see the other side of the Sacramento River when they were kids. Too much channelization has taken place in California. 80% of the wetland have been eliminated. The central valley used to be one huge shallow lake.

It's always best to buy local Tucker. Have a local rural feed mill grind your feed for you or get to know a local farmer and grind your own feed. It's time we Americans establish a much more secure local and regional food system. Everybody needs to grow a garden also.

Same haircut and 30 pounds lighter. 2 adult kids. One just graduated college with an engineering degree and daughter a Junior and honors student in college studying accounting and business management. Wife is head administrator at the local community college helping other kids.

Strawberries survived 29 degrees last night. This 16 x 10 foot bed yields almost enough strawberries for a year everyday for breakfast.

Most of my fellow farmers do not realize the same folks brewing up covid vaccines are also breeding our crops and brewing our pesticides. I'd like to see us go back to breeding and sharing our own seeds. My corn out yields anything GMO in the neighborhood and I'll share some.

Our Country does not have nearly enough housing now. Rural areas are already sold and any left not in farmland going to industrial solar and wind. Cities will become ghettos with more crime and drugs than ever.

Son and I not vaccinated. Wife and daughter had to get vaccinated for work back in 2001. No boosters or new vaccines since. FIL from California recently visited for 8 days. He had Covid when he got here and at least a week when he returned to California. None of us 4 got it.

Long distance travel in my 1985 Sunradar is incredible. No computers or flat screen distractions needed. I can also cook, keep my food cold, shower, sleep 4 comfortable and drive off road. It is the best road trip experience in the world. Few driving Tesla's would understand.

In their defense; the biggest reason for monoculture today is we simply do not have enough farmers. Critical shortage. The current border crisis is bringing in new help. I've worked with the largest and smallest farmers in the country. They are nearly all good people.

The Federal government has no business on a public Internet. I reported this security flaw back in 1985 while working at USDA. IT was a major portion of my duties then setting up private databases for farmers and staff. I put up some of the first websites. They are all insecure.

Clean Water act has been around for 50 years Tom. The 1985 Farm Bill spelled out compliance on HEL and wetlands. That was nearly 40 years ago. We farmers do just fine when the government gets out of the way. Take food stamps out of the farm bill if you want to make some progress.

There have been a few that stand out as the very worst that treat the soil as nothing more than a rooting medium. These farmers won't be in business long. The bottom line remains a critical shortage of farmers and even less that are familiar with rotational grazing.

Planted this in 2006. Conditions finally ideal for it to take off. Too dry for other vegetation this year that has been stiff competition. Most folks don’t know what it is. Grandpa did.

Have done both scenarios several times in the last 60 years. If you have skills like operating a dozer and being a carpenter, raw land is a much better deal and much less work over time. I've always hated fixing other's mistakes. Takes twice as long as building new.

My son did both Ted and paid off 95% of his tuition while working as an apprentice. He's now a "heavy metal engineer". BS, engineering, Ferris State in Michigan. Higher education is important but choose wisely. It also helps when a kid has a good Dad.
