Alright. I'm stepping away from Twitter. Might keep this app for some work announcements, but there's a slim chance I'll ever open up this app again. If you want to stay connected, I will be on Bluesky and IG. Only real ones get my phone number.
Y'all know who you are. 🫡

OPINION: SANRIO BOYS Tells Men It's OK To Be True To Themselves
By telling men it's alright to like cute characters that defy the idea of toxic masculinity, SANRIO BOYS sends out a great message — but what exactly drives it home so well?

The people who are celebrating the Magus Bride AI decision by saying the "woke" translators are getting fired: hope you enjoy reading mistranslations and not understanding anything. :)
I like buying official translations when I can, but I'm also glad I buy in JP more right now
Voltage Inc. went from the cheap place to get otome games in a gacha way and had very good from very bad smutty stories to making a full-blown otome game for a game console with full voices? 10 year old Brianna is screaming.

Hi! I'm Brianna, a JPN to ENG translator, freelance editor, writer and YouTuber(?) (weird, I know lol). I self-taught myself Japanese for a decade and love otome games! I hope to translate more anime, manga and light novels in the future. よろしくね!*\(^o^)/*
I'm happy to announce that I will be starting at Bandai Namco Entertainment America as an Associate Bilingual Specialist next month!!! Thank you everyone so much for reaching out and helping me throughout these 3 months!! I applied 3 times and finally got the job!!! 😭
I bought Norn9 to support the release! As soon as I said I was looking for Norn9, she fist bumped me and we spoke about otome games for like 30 minutes straight in Gamestop. 😂 I've never met a fan irl. I was so happy. Otome really did grow bigger. 🥹
What really frustrates me about the post is that the OP is stating that since they self-taught themselves and know Japanese, they're apparently correct. As someone who's also self-taught, there's a very clear difference between knowing Japanese and having the skill to translate.
@BlkBelleFlower
It really is frustrating that there's such a high standard put for Meghan, and their excuse all the time is that her personality is the issue. They don't even personally know her or Kate, and yet they paint a picture like Kate can do no wrong and Meghan does everything wrong.
If all translators were blacklisted, you do know that you wouldn't have *anything* in your local language... Right? Also, I once again ask myself why people always seem to complain about localization if they don't know Japanese.
Localizers continue to brag about ruining Japanese media that they clearly despise. They have no respect for the original works or care for the mediums, they just want to abuse their positions to make changes to suit their preferences. Blacklist them all.
#MeetTheTranslator
Hi! I'm Brianna — a JPN to ENG translator, CC and SDH editor, freelance writer, and anime YouTuber. I love otome games, drama CDs, and have known Japanese for 12+ years.
I'm often the editor, but translation and language is my passion.
よろしくお願いします🙇🏾♀️
I ordered Dark Fate from a seller on Amazon, and it was a Japanese guy who was worried I wouldn't know the language. I responded in Japanese that I did, and he was very impressed. So impressed that he gave me the limited edition copy??? 😭 And a handwritten note? I'm so happy
Passing the N2 is already such a huge accomplishment, but passing it after having so many people in my mentions telling me I don't know Japanese is just the icing on the cake. 😏👌🏾
The day after I got the call I got the job, I also got a rejection letter from a Japanese company about failing a translation test, but I totally forgot about it because I already got my dream job 😅 Really shows how translation tests are all subjective, I guess?
@brisanbear
I've read mistranslations in official releases before and didn't mind it. Now we just have the peace of mind that there's also no biased human opinion coloring the dialogue either.
So after quitting my other shitty job, I'm excited to announce that I now write features for
@Crunchyroll
! I'm so happy and excited to work for the company I've used for over 10+!😭
You know, Persona 3 is my favorite Persona game, but I'm only worried about one thing replaying it. The most important message is about treasuring time with loved ones and think about how you live your life, but... replaying it with the experience of grief kind of scares me.
🧵Since I mentioned this before and rarely see anyone talk about it because of NDAs and whatnot, I thought now would be the time to make a thread about payment rates for JP>EN and EN>JP editing/QA/proofreading! So, here we go... 🧵
I legit freaked out inside when I met
@Kieraplease
at the
#CrunchyrollExpo
today. I was just walking by and asked, "Are you Kiera Please?" And she said, "Yes, I am!" And that's how I ended up taking a picture with one of my favorite social media people. 🥹 She was very sweet!!
Okay y'all, so this was about a Localization Specialist job at Nintendo. I unfortunately didn't pass the two hour test and my resume apparently wasn't impressive to them, so that was a bummer. I'm okay now though, because I might have some even better news in the near future. ✨
This is to clear something up — but a lot of people who become official translators actually used to be fan translators. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm one! And also, translation doesn't just take one person — it's an entire team behind multiple lines.
Y'all!! I just got a work from home job, full with a company computer and everything... and I'm so happy. 😭 I feel so blessed right now. I job searched so much in the past year and I'm finally starting to find my footing. Thank you God.
This translator translated やめたい as "Is it too late to back out"? and I LOVED this choice so much! 😂
For reference, the previous line was, "And just so you know, this (camera) isn't waterproof, so don't drop it in the pool... Because it probably costs about 100,000 yen."
I passed the N3 proudly the first time I took it, failed the N2 by 10 points the first time I took it, and wanted to take it again. Didn't because of Covid, but this year I'm going to try and register for it for December! I'm hoping I can take it and get that 2nd certificate. ☺️
It's funny because whenever the Japanese voice actors meet the English voice actors they're always so happy to see them, then you got dub only people saying they suck when the JP voice actors are hyped to meet them. 💀
Discussing value of dubs:
1. It’s a time issue (we don’t work 40 hour weeks like everyone else)
2. It’s a labor issue (we are indeed forced to match timing and work, you cannot just “talk” or joke around)
3. It’s a training issue (people often spend a lot on classes/degrees)
You can make certain choices in Sympathy Kiss and the characters actually remember. I picked an emoticon where a character asked if "I" had siblings or not, and he brought up the fact that I had siblings in another part of the story. That's actually pretty cool!
I just realized I've known Japanese for 10 years. I self-taught myself when I was small so it feels a bit unbelievable. I'm pretty proud that I can say I'm fluent with confidence now when I used to tip-toe around that, like, only 2 years ago. 😊
I went on otome reddit and once again saw everyone shit on my baby boi Orlok so I once again remembered why I don't go on otome game reddit. I understand everyone had their own opinions, but just because I don't like Nicola doesn't mean I shit on him 24/7. 😩
Today is a good day~
I'm finally getting paid an adequate amount of money for editing a translation for the first time in my life at the end of the month 😭 I'm so happy!
Now that it's the day, I'm excited to say that
@sandlandgame
is out! SAND LAND was the second game I ever worked on at Bandai Namco. This game really made me realize how difficult and in-depth video game production was. I even read the manga countless times during devolpment! 🥹
I was asked to freely promote L&DS multiple times but never answered because I was too busy moving half way across the country. And I don't do shit for free. The more I hear about, the more I'm happy I didn't do it.
This hurts because I believe this as well, because I've seen this. I spent 12 years learning Japanese, and because of machine translation it makes the wages translators ask for absolute trash. Then, they hire you to edit the machine translation for barely anything.
Today is one of those days that I remember why I stopped being a fansubber because of people who thought they knew Japanese more than me, someone who actively studied it... and used Google Translate to diminish me for it.
I never thought I'd get laid off, but even if you don't think you will, it's important to keep track of all the projects you've worked on. My job turned off my access five minutes after they told me I was getting laid off, but I already had proof that I worked on many projects.
Welcome, 2024.
I don't get personal much, but 2023 wasn't the kindest year to me. I was laid off, my mental health was shit, inflation kicked my ass, risky surgery... but you know what? I felt hopeful near the end. A better job, therapy, and family powered me through.
I just want to say thank you to everyone for the kind messages. I've been referred by friends, reached out to by reputable companies, and feel confident that I will get a better position that will help support me from now on. I really can't thank you all enough. I'm very blessed.
The only parasocial relationships I have are with fictional characters, so if a real person does something that is dissapointing or immoral... I kind of just accept it when it's confirmed and then move on. Yeah, it still sucks, but I remember that I don't know them.
Alright
#otometwt
, I need your help. I'm once again making a video for Diabolik Lovers (
@2bricacity
) and if anyone who has played (or enjoys the anime) would want to be included. I'll explain what I need in the thread, but please retweet this to spread awareness. 😊
I worked on the closed captions for this show and it's adorable. It even has songs and all of the characters are very diverse, as well as the message it teaches. This is a bit of a rare tweet but if any of y'all have kids, I'd recommend this. It's so cute :)
Stoked to finally announce I voice Princess Karina Kiwi in Princess Power on
@netflix
!! This was my second prelay role and my VERY FIRST anxious party-planning sister who’s a princess. 😌💜
You can watch it on Netflix now!! It’s also available to watch on YouTube :)
@jennyyangtv
He really thought he would get away with it—and many of us did, too. That's probably why he looks so confused. Well, too bad for him. I hope he enjoys his new prison cell called accountability.
But on a more serious and not made note: I'm tired of hearing stories like this. I'm sure I'll hear many more, which is sad since translation is an art, but it's honestly sad to see it being placed so blatantly in your face.
It is now the 28th in Japan, which means yes, I immediately opened up Tengoku Strayside 10 minutes after it was unlocked. Haven't been this hyped for an otome game since Cupid Parasite. I hope it's good. 🥹
I feel like I'm one of the only people who doesn't play Tears of Themis amongst my otome game friends. I don't particularly like gacha games (besides Project Sekai, but that's my Vocaloid/rythm game side talking). Hmmm, what made y'all play it?
Okay so this is very odd, but I'm getting a Collar x Malice feel from Tengoku Strayside... and I'm absolutely loving it so far. And thank God the writer learned that info dumping is not the way to inform a player so she actually spaced out the important information. Wow. 🥹
I bought Persona 3 Portable, my all-time favorite Persona game eternally, for my birthday. And here's where I share the memory of dating Akihiko and then accidentally cheating on him with Theodore by having my brother pick options during an event. 😂
The writer seriously wants you to know she listened about the misogyny thing in her past works with the whole "women can do shit in this generation just like men" statement
I genuinely don't wanna get out of the common route for Radiant Tale because I pretty much love everyone. Damn. It's been a long time since I've felt that (like with Code: Realize).
I took a Japanese test recently and only had 2 minutes left to decide if the translation of 仕方ないわね = "It can't be helped" was wrong or not and I panic changed it to "Guess we're going for it" so pressure DOES work sometimes because that was pretty damn good 😂
