On 12/11 at 6:48 am a distracted driver drove onto the median at Balbo & LSD and crashed into the light pole and Gerardo's memorial ghost bike. Even though this intersection has proven deadly, it's been almost a month and the light pole has not been replaced.

This is why “just go around” isn’t a realistic option when people park in bike lanes. The likelihood of a driver coming up behind you speeding, distracted, or full of road rage is more common than you think.
Yikes! I have seen a lot of crashes but this might be the worst damage I’ve seen to a vehicle. One vehicle split in half length-wise closing SB Pulaski at 59th St. No word yet on the severity of injuries. Sometimes “at a high rate of speed” doesn’t quite cover it.

Isn’t it weird that an all time record high of pedestrians and cyclists have been getting killed by drivers in Chicago? It’s also weird that if you get hit at 40mph you have an 85% chance of being killed. It’s almost like there’s a correlation to public safety.

Semi’s shouldn’t be used to restock a 7-11. Imagine if USPS used semi’s to deliver mail to each residence. Stores require companies to make products small enough to fit on store shelves. Cities can require companies to use vehicles that are small enough to fit in parking spots.

1- Gerardo Marciales was killed at this intersection. In Feb a driver ran a red light from the left turn lane & went straight. 3 intersections along Lakeshore are currently under construction. Pedestrian medians are being widened & work is being done to force left lane to turn.
