@hell0evryone It’d be akin to retroactively claiming the professionals who designed a collapsed bridge “weren’t real engineers!” There’s so much more to learn by eschewing the ‘no true Scotsman’ fallacy and instead digging for the material root of the disagreement.

@alicirce Tangential, but was very funny to see one of the main voices in the senate calling on Trump to double down on export controls come from none other than Elizabeth Warren.

@uncle_authority If the US cracks down, Israel will lose a key PDF file pipeline. It is unclear if Israel’s domesticly produced PDF files alone are enough to sustain Israeli society.

And there it is! USAID (and likely more to follow) are being folded back into the State Dept. Likely done as both a cost cutting measure and to centralize control under new admin.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has long strayed from its original mission of responsibly advancing American interests abroad, and it is now abundantly clear that significant portions of USAID funding are not aligned with the core national interests of the United States. As an interim step toward gaining control and better understanding over the agency’s activity, President Donald J. Trump appointed Secretary Marco Rubio as Acting Administrator. Secretary Rubio has also now notified Congress that a review of USAID’s foreign assistance activities is underway with an eye towards potential reorganization. As we evaluate USAID and ensure it is in alignment with an America First agenda and the efforts of the State Department, we will continue to protect the American people’s interests and ensure their tax dollars are not wasted.

@aspeciesbeing @codger00 Of course! US politics is kayfabe. But do you think we should be satisfied with this? Being mere spectators to a game we have a stake in but no control over?

@ayanophane The network, yes. But regarding funds, crypto has made the rapid transfer of dark funds much easier. Cash spigot is off in countries that have banned crypto, but most haven’t.

@codger00 I understand laughing at all the losers on NED payroll that are losing their jobs but seeing this as a win is silly. How is this our win? Is anyone here deluded enough to think that we pressured Trump into doing this? Are we sports fans cheering on teams?

@vapmann Can’t rule that out, but I don’t think it’s prudent to underestimate our enemy, particularly in the current climate.

@gmotusus I think it’s premature to see something like this as a meaningful contraction of the total scope of regime change operations. A regrouping or rebranding maybe, but certainly no reason to believe a real contraction is occurring.

@postcyborg Where do you see them as most useful? Their little regime change efforts seem to have been getting stuffed pretty quickly as of late. And certainly not currently needed to make foreign intervention palatable to domestic audiences.
