@Eli_Rubin @ezalmanov @shabboshouse The problem is not there being an alignment between chassidus and politics Just that when brought into politics hard to impossible to know if it’s the chassidus leading to politics or vice versa Good rule of thumb is it must make politician professors uncomfortable

@ezalmanov @Eli_Rubin @shabboshouse Fwiw, I think they’re both equally wrong And I know for many years Lubavitch tried very hard to stay apolitical My grandfather never told his own family who he voted for Lubavitch being swallowed by politics either way is a travesty

My more charitable take on frum hesitancy is that the whole world is pretty new on its mainstream focus of exercise A reaction to a more sedentary high calorie lifestyle, as well as more science on the benefits And the frum world is always slow to adopt, many times for good reason and to their benefit But in this case there seems to be more, a kind of sunk cost fallacy, that if we admit exercise today is a good thing how do we explain our elders being overweight and not caring In meantime, guys our age are falling apart and at major health risk which is entirely preventable

🎯 judge by actions not by words, and certainly not by perceived motives
Culture is much stronger than text. Text can be and is molded and “overlooked” to fit culture. Pretty sure you know this. Frum (gen speaking ofc) culture, definitely from the top, is to shun exercise due to its association to looks etc (amongst other things). To say the text says this therefore we believe and act this way is disingenuous.
