Southgate deserves huge credit for that penalty win. First Eng coach to say that penalties are NOT a lottery & are about performing a skill under pressure. Every single player knew their task & focused on their execution. They owned it - shows it can be done!

I love Eden #Hazard #CFC for saying he puts happiness above trophies & his 3 kids are his Ballons D’Or. He sees himself as a father as well as an athlete. This doesn't make him hard to manage, but a role model for mental health. Happiness first. Football is fun - Eden is winning!

De Gea penalty record does not make pleasant reading for #MUFC fans. His last pen save was in April 2016 (Lukaku). Since then (I think) he has conceded 25 (TWENTY-FIVE) pens in a row. Time for Ole to make a late sub?

How did CRO win that? Scoring last goal in match improves chances. Momentum! Modric won toss & chose to kick first - good call. Pressure on Marquinhos kicking to avoid defeat is huge. Leaving Neymar to take pen 5, big NO! An ego-driven decision, most important pens are 1 & 4.

And that is why you want to kick first in a shoot-out when you win the toss. So much more pressure when kicking to avoid defeat. #Mbappe looks twice at ref waiting for whistle, very quick approach. High-status players have more pressure on them...

Messi #ARG has taken 5 pens at this WC! Scored 4/5. First was GK-Dependent v #KSA , then saved GK-Independent v #POL , scored GK-Dep x2 v #NED . Then switched strategy again vs #HRV , went GK-Ind, maybe adjusting due to Livakovic excellent pen record? Great pen!
