Guangzhou FC started their AFC Champions League campaign last night with a 0-5 defeat to Malaysian side JDT. The game was notable due to a red card given to Guan Haojin for kicking an opponent in the head and today Guangzhou FC announced that Guan has been sacked by the club.

China League One side Dalian Pro have registered an all-Chinese squad for the 2022 season and they will aim to return to the CSL without Sam Larsson, Emmanuel Boateng, or Marcus Danielson. No official statement has been made on whether they are still under contract at the club.

According to media reports, Matt Orr has rejected a contract offer from Guangxi Pingguo Haliao, which may allow a CSL club to secure his services. Orr, who has made 18 appearances for Hong Kong, has scored 18 goals in 42 games since joining Guangxi from Kitchee SC in August 2022.

Guangzhou FC today bade farewell on Weibo to Nike, their shirt manufacturer from 2008 to 2023, when they became a powerhouse and won the AFC Champions League, before dropping down to China League One. It is most likely that Guangzhou will wear Kelme-produced shirts next season.

Shanghai Port held on to win the CSL title today, despite playing with nine men for the second half and with head coach Javier Pereira also given his marching orders. The match finished 1-1 and with 18 players on the pitch after Shandong Taishan also had two players sent off.

Shaanxi Chang'an Union have today announced that their new head coach is Oscar Céspedes Cabeza. The Spaniard is a familiar face in Chinese football, having previously been the head coach of Nanjing City, Guangxi Pingguo Haliao, Shaanxi Chang'an Athletic and Qingdao FC.

Zhejiang FC have confirmed the departure of striker Nyasha Mushekwi after four and a half years at the club, during which time he fired Zhejiang to promotion to the CSL and the AFC Champions League. Since joining in 2019, Mushekwi also became Zhejiang's all-time top goalscorer.

On the same day that Ricardo Goulart announced his retirement, another former Guangzhou FC player - Huang Bowen - also confirmed today that he is hanging up his boots. Huang once held the record of the youngest Chinese top-flight goalscorer and made 406 appearances in his career.

Fourth-tier side Shaanxi Chang'an Union smashed the attendance record for the Chinese Champions League in their match against Dalian Huayi today, with a total crowd of 25,596. Despite Shaanxi's sizable support, they could only manage to secure a point, and the match finished 1-1.

Chengdu Rongcheng defeated Dalian Pro 1-0 today to gain promotion to the CSL, thereby relegating Dalian to the China League One. A deflected strike from Rômulo that wrongfooted Dalian goalkeeper Zhang Chong was the only goal of the game and the tie finished 2-1 on aggregate.
