Doctors of X:
Why are you guys almost always 45 mins behind?
I’m honestly curious to know what slows down the workflow. Patients? Nurses? Something else?

One of my favorite things to do when I briefly lived in Tel Aviv was go find a cafe in yaffo and just listen to the call to prayer.
@RobertMSterling
When the agency I used to work for got bought out by a monster agency eater the first thing they did was block Reddit access from our laptops.
I’m glad I finally have a face to pin it to.
An easy way to start to crack down on your email spam complaints.
Make getting onto your email list a challenge. Double opt in, a required check box on your pop up that clearly states you will send marketing messages.
Mild rant 🧵
It's always wild to see brand owners make marketing decisions based on how they personally shop or behave.
"I never open emails at 7am therefore no one else on planet earth does".
Here's my scientifically proven method guaranteed to find the best email send time.
I just choose whatever numbers make me happy that day.

No amount of data deep diving will give you a magical solution to fix a list that is constantly bombarded by discounts.
You have a spoiled child. That can't be undone in one or two campaigns or AB testing.
@iamnickyates
I actually got reprimanded by my old agency manager for asking a client’s Head of CS this question on a call. Apparently “experts” aren’t supposed to ask questions.
The reason your McAgency campaign manager can’t create original email strategies is because they are trying to handle tasks and fires for 4-7 clients at a time while using the same agency “playbook” for all of them.
You deserve an email partner not a glorified project manager
These are easily the two best Mother’s Day emails I’ve seen.
While they’re totally opposite in design vs plain text they both have something very similar. Something that 99% of all brands won’t do.
Do you see it?
Sold my first car ever.
That's it guys. I'm retiring from this digital marketing thing and going all in on a car dealership.

The've already sold 7 so the proof of concept is there!
Next step would be to set up a simple Shopify page so they can take payments online.
Then you could try out organic post and paid social media.
I always keep my notes app open watching shows on the weekend. There's literally dozens of lessons you can pull out and relate to your market or client's market for fun, pop cultural style emails.
I'm thinking about starting a service called The Email Octagon: Where I lock one of my ugly, cauliflower-eared text-based emails in a cage with your cute, lil designed email to see who comes out the champion.
Thoughts?
Email copy for eCom really doesn't need to be complex. Since we're selling a physical product it's a little easier for people to understand what they're buying instead of a course or coaching program.
But...
It's also very easy to write lazy copy or rely too much on images.
Agencies love to pitch clients that fancy email creative is what moves the needle.
Then they stick you with a designer who is literally drowning in last second email requests for 20 clients and a copywriter who spends 5mins researching your brand.
Coming from a direct response copywriting background one of the hardest adjustments to make was writing shorter copy for eCom emails.
Clients (and designers) typically FREAK out when they see a 250+ word email.
ESPN+ has amazing content but quite possibly the worst interface.
Took me almost 5 minutes to find the show I was still watching to get to the next episode.
One of the biggest mistakes I see with email automations -
Not splitting the flows by prospects and customers. The business strategy for each group should be different.
For example only using strategic discounts for prospects to turn them into customers.
This guy was able to get Scottie Scheffler’s mugshot printed on a shirt within hours of his arrest, yet your SaaS company is going to spend 12 weeks arguing over what color a button should be.
Case in point..
17/25 emails sent last summer for this brand included discounts.
Shockingly - the ones that had no discounts did the worst, by a country mile.
