The Ottoman slave trade lasted longer, took more people and was far more brutal than the Atlantic slave trade, yet nobody comes to Turkey for reparations. Why? Because for all their many faults, Turkey’s leaders actually like their own country and fight for its interests, and they aren’t about to hand over their people’s hard earned money to obvious grifters.
