Cottage Retreats have just said they will go ahead with our booking for July 13th. I’ve not been this excited since Radnor Road primary announced we were going to Alton Towers this year instead of penscynor wildlife park- again.. I’m going to see the sea - oh my!!

This breaks my heart. Scotland, Ireland and even England would not have to make a case to protect something so central to the nation’s scholarship and identity. So sad National Library of Wales: Ministers accused of 'lack of political will' - BBC News
When folks from different backgrounds are visible in yr theatre, a greater diversity of people feel welcomed, at home, and hopefully happier about their tax being spent on the arts. To make this work you need to offer paid employment. Volunteering isn’t a viable shortcut IMHO
Met first when he was 17 incredibly cheeky & utterly disarming. I am so grateful for his insight & wisdom over the years & that we always laughed. When he rang me to tell me about Tara, I was in Lidl, he said ‘I’ve got something even more exciting than the middle isle!’ RIPCariad

I’ve recruited enough people in the sector to notice a marked difference on how men and women negotiate contract terms and fees. Men ask for more generally, and when women do same, they are often immediately batted away or seen as greedy and unreasonable.

This obviously terrible for music and the arts but it’s so much more than that, it squashes the hope and optimism that comes with international exchange and dialogue, and the possibility of inspiration and curiosity
So admiring of freelance artists, I’ve spoken to a few today making big hard decisions to cancel travel and gigs at huge personal cost to them and their livelihoods, but determined to lead the way and be responsible. Total legends

Slightly disrespectful by Norton, and so with incredible dignity, apparent ease and immense focus she moves the fizz swirling around him to a world she magics out of air.

Judi Dench was on Graham Norton last night to push her new book about her life and work with Shakespeare. After making the point we quote Shakespeare daily without knowing it, this happened:
‘a party of Welsh miners from the Rhondda valley...the great working-class army routed during what the poet Idris Davies called the “summer of soups and speeches” – general strike of 1926.‘

An emptiness in the pit of my tummy about the NTW news. I am thinking back to all thinking, excitement, possibilities, back and back over generations, way before the company was formed, and then it was THERE and now it might not be ..devastating.

Maybe now more than ever it’s time to work together - things won’t be the same again, the past will likely be a foreign land - so if as makers, watchers and supporters of art we share more collaborate more and support one another, we could be mighty? Or that’s what I reckon

At last. We need plenty more articles like this. The Creative Industries in Wales employ many more people than farming but all we hear about is the impact on Agriculture...

I did a rip of useless degree at post 92 university. I’ve worked in the arts since the day I left 29 years ago, all the time paying my taxes and contributing to society. But total waste of time apparently. 😠
Since 2010, enrolment in arts GCSEs has fallen by 40% and the number of arts teachers has fallen by 23%. This shift is most pronounced among state schools in deprived areas, where pupils are far less likely to sing in a choir or play in an orchestra.
I’m so sad and disappointed about the way this has been handled.
