@jamiemchale I’m totally fine with immigrant citizens voting (heck, I am one)! But if you don’t understand the language of the political debate and only vote along tribal lines, then this clearly deteriorates the quality of liberal democracy.

This victim blaming mentality rightly went out of fashion in most other areas, but somehow not when it comes to France & upholding free speech.

Heroes fighting their foes often become like their enemy during the battle. Orbán is no exception - from anti-communist liberal to authoritarian oppressor in three decades. A tragic fall, really.

🇭🇺In a communist-style propaganda speech, PM Orbán today "admitted" that his biggest fear about the 2022 general election is foreign (EU/US) interference. Expect a huge amount of anti-US disinformation in the next 6 months. Orbán's challenger is already portrayed as a US agent.

Abolish the covid theatre border bureaucracy (which creates the best infection hotspot), join the Schengen zone, and #AbolishTheHomeOffice preferably in that order.

People in the Brussels bubble who are advocating the EMA to block the Sputnik vaccine approval based geopolitical concerns are actively advocating for more death and misery across Europe. Stop the vaccine nationalism, any medicine that's safe and effective should be used!

Those who think nationalisation of admittedly horrible British trains will magically lead to better results; this is the shitshow on government owned @LNER . 5 hours of hell between Edinburgh-London.

If the Germans couldn’t make socialism work, nobody can. @K_Niemietz did it again; I’ve never had so much fun whilst reading an @iealondon publication!

After spending my whole adult life in England, graduating from LSE with a Masters, and speaking ok English, I would have been ineligible to start my first great job at @iealondon under the new immigration system.

I wish more businesses had this mentality. Instead of lobbying the government for favours and getting ahead by restricting their competition, businesses should always ask the government to get out of the way and let competition thrive!

Government boast it is opening up visas to the world’s top graduates. But many originally come from third world countries. Why is Britain asset stripping poor countries like this?

At 20 I did the same things as today; being too libertarian for the European Parliament & simultaneously being too wet for libertarians. (And wearing the same exact polo shirts as today..)

Do you often feel that the government is trying to regulate your every move? 🚫🚷Even what you decide to eat, drink, or inhale? 🍔 🍺 Unfortunately it really is! Check out our #NannyStateIndex to see how badly your country ranks.

My friends & family are banned from visiting me and I’m forced to spend tons of money on Covid tests every time I return to this island despite being fully vaccinated. Sure feels like freedom 🙄

Think tankers often talk about how to achieve a better world but sometimes we are forced to act. Very proud of my @iealondon colleagues who helped our Afghan friends to escape Taliban rule so they can build freer societies without fear for their lives.

Excellent example of the @EU_Commission ’s & @OECD ’s framing bias. At a conference about better regulation there is no option to vote for fewer regulations to improve EU practices in the future!
