Not sure what point you're making. There are safe ways to modernize and componentize code but these ways add time to a project and require subject matter experts as well as experienced devs to perform the modifications. Too frequently updated code isn't tested thoroughly enough. My favorite example of rewrites gone wrong is Netscape's disastrous attempt with Navigator -

@reddit_lies More than at any other time, Reddit is unusable at the moment. Every other post - literally - for me is a protest notification or an anti-Trump screed. I like the "city" subreddits but even those are mired in illusory moral panics and pearl clutching.

@mask_bastard When an account goes "live" I get a notification. I DGAF about watching livestreams of minor channels I follow - and there's no way to turn it off without unsubbing from them.

@VPrasadMDMPH What a timely post. I'm arguing with some kids in my alma mater's subreddit about this exact topic. UT of Austin has the second biggest endowment in the country but the kids are crying about the NIH defunding. Well, go ask the university for some of their sweet cash in the bank.
