this was a memoir about a severely autistic child written by his father, popular in the early 70's. Nowadays, you don't even get to hear about severely autistic children anymore. I read this in the late 70s and enjoyed it.
The balding father pushes the shopping cart down the supermarket aisle, his 4-yr-old son sitting on the shelf within, sneakers feet dangling through wire rings. A fat&friendly woman stops and smiles at the boy. “Your beautiful,” she says, bending over him, “he’s beautiful.” 1/
