This weekend, both Shannon and Bob had birthdays, and we were all out on the town Saturday night. After a fine dinner we went looking for action. It seemed like Northhampton had rolled up its sidewalks for the night, when we heard music from a distant alley. Moving in that direction, the sound got louder, and David announced that he knew the place. It's great, he told us. You can get a drink, a burger, hepatitis and the clap all in one place! We came into sight and found a long line. At least fifty people wanted whatever was in there, more than us. We edged closer to the line, and I overheard two Millenials talking. One said to the other, How was summer camp when you were sixteen? It was great, her friend replied. The best part was getting together to trade candy. They didn't let us kids have candy, but we traded it just like grownups trade cigarettes in prison. It made me think of my own youth and reflect sadly on adult life. We abandoned our efforts to get inside and headed for the ice cream store, only to find it closed. It's times like that that make you wish for a flare gun to light the night, or some dynamite to drop down the storm drain and raise the dead.

Carla, I thik when you say "light sciences can't scratch the surface in ASD disability," I think you are referring to psychology's inability to meaningfully help people with ID + autism + complications. If so, I agree. But from my perspective, for that group, relief is more likely to come from engineered assistive and interpretive technology than genetics, so we still have an issue of direction.

Well, I'll engage you on here but I agree it's not the same as talking person as we used to do. In particular, I get the sense that people get increasingly divisive and angry over differences on here, whereas we coudl start with different positions face to face and work things out, and even people who disagreed vehemently woudl be seen sharing the lunch tabla at @iaccautism
