So I decided to try and make an archive of all the gigs I’ve been to. Special shoutout to David James Young, whose legendary archive list was a major inspiration. This is a work in progress, with so many more to add! Follow along if you like ☺️

Spotify buying Heardle, loading it with songs paid for by labels that no one could recognise and then shutting it down a year later because people stopped playing because they didn’t recognise the songs is one of the most music industry things ever.

The Splendour cancellation will have severe ongoing effects. It will impact international touring and how we are viewed as market. It was already expensive and exhausting getting artists to come here for their own shows, things are going to get worse for all live music in Aus.

Just building on this, the statement from Spotify said that they wanted to focus on other forms of music discovery. That exactly tells you that they didn’t understand what Heardle, a tool for nostalgia not discovery, was gaining popularity.

Like if your response to all of this is ‘get better acts’ then I hate to fuckin break it to you, but if you’re an international act and you saw that every major Australian festival was getting canned over low ticket sales, then you’re not going to tour. Bookers are overcautious

The Azealia Banks tirade is complicated. There ARE systemic issues in Aus music, there ARE things we need to be doing to make the scene more inclusive and forward thinking. It’s not an issue of quality, there are so many talented artists here making incredible music.

What’s happened with the Eras Tour is unprecedented in Aus music history. Ticket policies must change in order to match a now global/more Americanised market or face stagnation and challenges the touring scene will not recover. The lobby is no longer good enough to meet demand

Groovin’ cancelling is part of a much deeper problem than people not liking a single lineup is the problem. Live music was rough pre-pandemic and it has never fully recovered. Between that, costs to run festivals and artists straight up not wanting to tour here, things are dire.

@lordvader11111 The state of live music is part of the cost of living issue. If people can’t afford their essentials, they’re not going to be able to afford things like this. This is decades of voting in favour of short sighted policy that lined one generations pockets and billed the next for it

I really want to take what happened to Ethel Cain as an opportunity to talk about the touring pressure and scheduling artists are currently under. I’ve seen artists and bands who have basically been touring with only months in between for breaks. It’s a recipe for disaster.

It’s actually wild how many hoops you have to jump through on ticketing websites just to see how much tickets will be. Pricing should be on the page with all the other info or added in the map infographic, and it should be illegal not to display prices.

Festival tour, national then regional tour whilst also expecting artists to release singles or an EP in months between tours is only going to cause burnout and potentially health effects, like Ethel collapsing on stage. Artists aren’t machines you put a coin in, they’re people.

Really hoping SZA has a local support for her upcoming Aus tour. So much great local talent in @paniaxo , @iamchanelloren and @ashli_tv that any of these incredibly talented artists would be such a great choice

My Rebecca Black video going viral has created two vastly different comment sections People who know about the Rebecca Black Renaissance and how slay she is People who still think bullying a 13 year old 10yrs ago is fine, and don’t understand how reclaiming your narrative goes
